Should clear coat be put on head lights?
I set up an appointment for next week to get clear bra installed on my new 2007 Black Touring Coupe. So far no rock chips etc... want to protect it now.
They are going to clear coat the front bumper, part of the hood and head lights and mirrors.
Since the hood has the hump in it they say the clear bra will have to be cut in a U shape avoiding the hump. Does that sound right?
Suppose there is no way for the clear coat to lie flat on the hump....
Also, should the head light covers be clear bra as well? Anyone have problems after getting head light covers done?
Duh.... edited to clear bra. That's what I was trying to write. hee

Friend,
I was told by one certified installer of the clear bra that is not a good idea to put the clear bra material on the lights.
George from Pasadena

It only becomes a problem if you have halogen bulbs, because the clear film will trap the heat in, and potentially damage the assy.
They should cover the hump too. No, they should not be avoiding it. It should be covered as well.
Clear bra on headlights... I wouldn't do it. Seen alot of stress cracked headlights with just thin overlays, let alone thick clear bra film. Unless you have the '06 and up bi-xenon lights, you have halogen high beams regardless of whether or not you are HID. Headlights are pretty tough and can take a beating. With all the hits my front bumper has taken to the paint (I'll clear bra it when I can't take it any more and repaint), my headlights still look perfect.

Ooops
I edited my post. Clear bra is what I meant.
So... no clear bra material should go on my 2007 head light covers....
The clear BRA installer says he can't put the bra over the hump. hmmmm
Thanks for your replies so far.
Kevin, clear bra for just the bumper and hood they quoted $460.
To do bumper, hood, light covers and mirrors they quoted $550.
SunEez in Palm Desert, CA
They say they guarantee no yellowing etc..
I guess the clear bra goes up and just over the covers of the head lights on the hood. The head lights would be covered by a separate cut out of the material they use.
With the hump they said that would leave a bubble or something and would be hard to do. Therefore a U shape. hmmm
So let me ask again. Are my 2007 HID (high intensity discharge ?) lights ok for the clear bra material?

"The clear BRA installer says he can't put the bra over the hump. hmmmm".
If your installer told you this he probably is not very skillful or confident. I just had a 3M bra applied to my full front bumper, Nismo front lip, one third of the hood, fender tops and mirrors and the guy did a seamless install with no issues.

I talked to the owner of the place that is doing the bra install next Monday. He said the clear bra will be a kit they order custom fit for my 2007 350Z Touring Coupe.
One of the employees told me incorrect info a few weeks ago about the hump on the hood and the clear bra. sheesh! The place does install clear bras on alot of cars. I called several dealerships around here and they recommended the place I am going to go to.
Since they are so recommended then I hope they will do it right!
The product they use is called Clear Shield.
I couldn't find any place near here that installs 3M. I checked the website. Too far away for any 3M professional installers for me.
