Default Typical cost to have a CF hood painted?

There is a body shop in town that I have heard is "the best" so I gave them a call to see what it might cost to have my CF hood painted, the guy told me I'm looking at about $2,000! He said that they have to blend every 3 ft section that is next to the hood in order for it to match correctly. How can a place justify that kind of expense, they must be just killing insurance companies on claims. I asked if he would just paint the hood and not match it and he said he wouldn't do the job...

I had a front and rear bumper painted and installed and it cost me a little under one grand and the color matched really well! I thought that was expensive!

What have you paid to have a hood painted?

To get the paint to match you would have to blend the fenders, but its certainly NOT a $2000 job. Keep checking around at local shops. If you dont want to pay for the best, then dont go to the best. Any body shop can paint/fade a hood so a "good" body shop will do.

This question gets asked pretty frequently. There is no difference in painting a CF hood from a FRP hood or a metal hood. You have two choices when it comes to painting something. You can have them just match your stock paint as close as possible by giving them the gas door from your car OR you can have them paint the hood on the car and blend the fenders. Unless your car has been in the sun a ton and has a lot of fade, a decent shop should be able to get the paint close enough that you won't need to blend it. Now that being said, certain colors (SS, PPW) are a bit harder to match than others. As far as price, ~$300 is the minimum just to paint the hood.

If they match the paint correctly, they do not have to blend at all. I've had a lip, rear skirt, side skirts and a wing painted all at different times, all OFF the car and they all match perfectly when installed.

The main thing with painting CF is the quality of the CF and the smoothness of it. The pattern hides inconsistencies and waviness in the resin that become painfully obvious when painted, so depending on how smooth or wavy the surface is, will determine how much prep is needed to get a smooth paint job. That should be the largest possibility for price variation.

2k for the hood paint? No way. And depending on the color of your car, you might get lucky and they won't have to blend. The paint they used on my body kit/ CF hood matched PERFECTLY to the original paint...no blending necessary...

Go somewhere else for a quote, they are trying to rip you off...

werd. if the painter is competent, he will match the hood to the rest of the car, not just looking up the paint code.

that is typical. People just don't want to give out the wrong quote over the phone. Expect around $400 to $700

Werd. Did this on my Prelude. I had the hood done (just on the sides), my front passenger quarter panel, and a body kit done for $1200.

The hood itself should not cost more than $200-300.
