Back from the dead!
So does anyone know of a wet carbon hood that weighs less than stock? Even if it is only a couple of pounds?
In particular i like the Seibon TS style hood. I want the hood primarily for cooling, but i don't want to do it at the expense of weight.
Anyone one have any numbers?
Thanks

stock hood is near the top with a wet carbon one last pic in first post.
wetcarbon hood came out about the same , if your after carbon for weight savings then its either drycarbon and pay the $$$$$$ or change the trunk as thats good ole steel and is heavy as ****(weight of trunk in same thread but no carbon wieght)

Yes, that one i know of. I did ask if anyone knows of a wet carbon hood that weighs less than stock. I know drycarbon weighs alot less, but that is not what i asked.
Anyone know any wet carbon hoods that weigh less than stock, in particular, the Seibon TS style hood?
Thanks

Seibon TS is heavier than stock by 2-3 lbs (I used to have it in my notes, but since we stopped dealing with them and I sold the one I had on my car, I don't have the exact info anymore)

Dammit! Now i'm confused.
Seibon USA says it weighs 18 pounds, and Seibon UK says it weighs 9kg(20lbs), which are both lighter than the stock hood, but now you tell me it heavier.

most carbon fiber hoods are actually heavier then the stock 350z hoods.. there might be a couple dry carbon models that were found to be 2-3 lbs lighter but the price you are paying for them does not justify their cost. So if your buying a CF hood make sure you know your doing it purely for looks.

Seibon dry carbon hood weighs 5.8kg,so thats nearly 10 pounds less.
Some wet carbon hoods weigh less than stock like mazinger mentioned above. You just need to make sure which ones.

Weight savings is minimal if at all - NONE.
Looks are subjective....im not about oooh la..la at all.
To me the reason i would want a Carbon fiber hood would be heat dissipation.....which is pretty much the only reason in the 350z's case since weight doesnt get reduced that a CF hood would be useful on the track/track days.
You can research Carbon fiber heat dissipation over aluminum online. I learnz about it in engina-ma-neering school...

Wow, that's interesting, i would have thought carbon fiber was more of an insulator. Cool.
Yeah, i wouldn't buy the hood for weight savings so to speak, but i don't want to replace the hood with a heavier item, you know. It would be for heat dissipation but not at the expense of added weight.

even if it was 5 lbs heavier, the heat dissipation would be worth it. (would rather have lower engine temps than 5lbs of weight)
There is a thread where we talk about venting the engine bay and vented hoods...Chebesto removed the rear plastics around the brake master, windshield wipers, and battery area, etc and noticed significant temp drops on his gauges.............
I wouldn't want a vented hood, cause i wouldn't want rain, etc getting in my engine by regardless, so to me a heat dissappating CF hood is worth it.
My Yamaha R6 had a CF Hindle exhaust.......i could ride my bike for hours and could press my hand on the exhaust and it was "warm" at worst....never scorching hot like other metal exhaust...

Perhaps seibon changed the hood over the years, impossible for me to say because we stopped selling their stuff a number of years ago. I had a TS many years ago, when it first came out, and it was 3.2 lbs more than stock.
I had the TS on my car through rain, and snow, and everything else as the car was a daily driver at the time and stayed outside. I never had any engine issues whatsoever from the vents. Since the car has all the work it does now, it stays inside and it's not a daily driver anymore
Some of the hoods out there shed considerable weight - all depends what you want to spend though
