This is a simple Physics question. How does heat dissipate? Through conductors. Is metal a conductor? Most certainly. Is glass? Nope. But sunlight travels through it unabated while metal blocks it. But being a conductor, metal absorbs external heat and becomes hot itself, transferring its own heat to things around it.

Now transplant that logic onto a car. Tint doesn't change the insulator property of glass, but it does filter sunlight, taking away a lot of its heat (mine, for example, reduces it by 52%) and nearly all of the UV rays (mine does 98%). The car's metal, however, continues to conduct and dissipate heat as always. So depending on how hot the sunlight is on a given day, you reach a point of critical mass, so to speak, when the car has been parked out in the sun long enough to allow the heat absorbed and transferred by its metal to "make up" for the heat blocked by the tint film, thereby making the interior nearly as hot as it would be without the tint.

However, the real benefit of tint in such a case is with UV blockage. Keeping the interior trim fade-free is a tremendous advantage itself.

And when you're driving with the windows up, tint is a Godsend on a hot, sunny day as the filtered sunlight feels just balmy instead of scalding.
