Default Seat position

Where do all you fellow Z'ers sit in relation to the clutch?

I have found that it is most comfy to sit in a position where if I slouch a little, I can barely reach the end of the clutch if I really stretch. What's killing me though is that the steering wheel becomes far and I think it is affecting my handling... I just knicked a curb with my nice ce28n time attacks on the rear right today.

I've had a total of 3 incidents now.. 2 in the last 2 days... all right turns my red stripe is turning silver. *sigh

I'm 5'10 and my clutch engagement is in the middle... i have the front of the seat a few notches back from the front of the knee pads.... plenty of room to go back... close enough that I can easily depress the clutch fully and heeltoe with no issues.... with the angle of the seat back just enough to be far enough away from the airbag and a comfortable distance for my arms for a proper 9-3 grip on the wheel... 3+ years no curb checks..

well my guess is if you have to stretch to reach the clutch, and the steering wheel is to far away.........well you might need to move forward....................... just a bit. I mean I've always enjoyed not having to struggle to control my car.

I think many people sit too far from the wheel. I adjust my seat so that if I depress the clutch fully, I have just a slight bend in my left knee. My seat is almost upright. I drive with hands on 9 and 3 and close enough that I feel pretty solid throughout the steering wheel's rotation.

I think if you play around with the seat adjustments, you'll find a position where your arms just feel right (not awkward/tiring and you should feel confident and safe). You might think you look geeky, but it's either geeky+control or gangsta and loose.

I have it so that when I depress the clutch fully my knee is bent like half into to inch.
But then I can do this since I have race clutch and the pedal travel is like half the distance of stock.

a girl friend of mine busted out laughing at me the first time she rode with me... she said... "hahaha you really drive like that"....(referring to the upright posture and both hands on the wheel @ 9-3) ... I just smiled real big and said fk you...... on the next turn I kicked the rear out and took it to about 90mph WOT.... "any more questions?"

Ricers drive like them . . .

If you attend a high performance driving school (HPDE, etc.), the instructors will show you how to sit properly in an upright position closer to the steering wheel instead of farther back and hands @ 9 & 3. When you get a chance, watch Speed Channel and look how close the NASCAR drivers are to the steering wheel. It gives them better vision in front & control of the steering wheel.

I'm 5' 9.5" and generally adjust my seat so that I can place my foot flat on the foot rest, then adjust the backing so that my arm is slightly bent holding the steering wheel. This allows for full control of the wheel with minimal force and full peddle range manipulation.

your wrist should reach the top of the steering wheel and if is happening, then your clutch position will be good as well

First I am 5'7", so i sit a little farther forward than most. I sit so that my foot sits flat on the foot rest, with a little bend in my leg (approx 20-30 degrees), this allows me to depress the clutch just passed the clutch point, if I extend my leg normally, or push the clutch fully if I stretch. As far as distance from the steering wheel, I tend to angle my seat back 1 or 2 notches from up right and have my left hand between 10 and 11, and right hand between 4 and 5; my right hand position seems the most comfortable for quick shifting, but for more control, I'll shift hands to 9 and 3 (like most people I know ).

I found my clutch engagement feels better when Im closer.

I also drive at 9-3 when I am driving a little harder.

You're too far from your controls. Proper driving position should place you with your elbows bent with both hands on the wheel, and you should be able to put your foot behind the clutch pedal on the floor board / fire wll and press firmly. If you can do that, then you will be able to press the clutch pedal down completely while still having a slight bend to your knee. You should never have to stretch to remain in control of your vehicle.
