Anyone interested in LED tail lights(a la concept Z)
well I sure hope its less than that... the place I contacted specializes in short run parts, using soft tools. anywho, only time will tell. still waiting for the quote which will either kill it or push the concept foward.
EDIT: just got his email, the guy Im working with is out of town until friday, so I should know then.

well boys and girls, this project is officially cut.
he finally got back to me and give me very very different prices than he gave my father 2 weeks ago.
15000$ to make the tools. unless I make a "usable master" whatever that means, its only 3-5grand. after that pricing to turn a profit in an attempt to make up the 3-15k that I had to drop in the beginning. dont think anyone wants to pay 1200$ for a set of tail lights.
so with that, all those that said it would be far too expensive were very much correct.
so... I may still modify the stock housing, and just add LEDs into it, as that appears to be the only way that is the slightest bit financially possible. if ites even physicly possible since space behind the tail lights is not much.
owell, sorry to get your hopes up, I tried.

15000$ to make the tools. unless I make a "usable master" whatever that means, its only 3-5grand. after that it is 150$ PER HOUSING, and 250$ PER LENS, meaning 800$ in parts, not even including LEDs, or labor by me, or profit in an attempt to make up the 3-15k that I had to drop in the beginning. dont think anyone wants to pay 1200$ for a set of tail lights.

well I mean, its slightly possible if the lenses werent replaced, but yeah... still looking into it, but, not likely. housing alone are expensive, plus LEDs, labor, ect, and 2grand atleast start up cost, and that only lets me modify a stock tail light keeping its lens. in the end itd probably come out to cost about what a stock set of tail lights cost(600$). and Id need atleast 20near solid orders sight unseen before I would plunk down even 2grand to get the ball rolling, which of course is a very long shot.

well the design I had was/is very different, and as you can see, not too many are willing to pay very much for it.
I actually recently made some headway with the production plans. but still not promising anything. eventually perhaps.
