Default Hatch paint in comparison to the door paint?

I was out waxing my car for the first time and noticed that the paint on the hatch wasnt has smooth and clear as the paint on my roof or door. Is this common for the Z. The hatch paint seems a bit grainy and not so smooth. It is easy to see on my Z because it is black. Is there a way to get it as smooth as the rest of the cars paint, such as multiple layers of wax maybe? The car has never been in an accident that I am aware of, so I dont think its ever been repainted.

The paint on my hatch is the same, however I have the "grainy" paint on my gas filler lid.

Well the biggest difference between our cars is that I have an 05 and yours is a 03. When you said that the paint is the same, did you mean that your hatch paint was as smooth and mirror like as your door and roof ect...?

Well, did you use a clay bar? The "less smooth" could be contaminants such as brake dust on the doors ... brake dust would be less common on the hatch, so it could make sense.

Edit: Oh wait, I misread, I thought you said the DOOR was less smooth ... But still, did you clay it?

I did not clay the hatch, but the grainy appearance runs through out the entire hatch. I can almost feel the bumpyness through my fingers. I did not clay it only because it wasnt that dirty to begin with and I used a paint cleaner first. Its hard to explain, but the paint on the hatch is not as sharp and clear as the the rest of the cars parts.

it looks just as the name describes.

when its washed and waxed it's easy to see, just looks like the peel of an orange. It's pretty common if this is what it is, nothing to worry about. Plenty of threads here on it just do a search for "peel" and you're likely to find some good stuff

one of many, with a decent pic to see if thats what it is you're refering to.
