Default buffing out rubs/scratches?

hi all-

hay bail fell off of a truck in front of the wife today on the way home. she ran smack into it and it left some rub marks (not quite scratches) on the front bumper.

any suggestions on how to buff these out? any special compound to use? techniques?

also, the impact seemed to jog one of the marker lights out of place in the bumper. how do i get up under there to rest it into place? it has to go to the dealer next week, should i just let them take care of it?

thanks-
indulf

go to any auto parts store and buy some mequires scratch remover. get a nice soft microfiber towel and follow the directions on the bottle, works great, as for the loose sidemarker if you jack the car up in the front end, remove the underpan, theres like 12-13 little bolts pull the black plastic pan off and check out the marker, most likely it tore the plastic but you can check it out. good luck and have fun

as for the marker lights, they aren't completely out of position. i am hoping nothing was torn, but ill see when i get under there.

maybe its a good time to get some led side markers?

thanks-

I haven't tried Meguiar's, but i've used Mothers Gold step 2 and it works just fine, even on a scratch that I made worse with rubbing compound. Note: if you are using rubbing, make sure it's fine grade, not the coarse stuff, and then use the scratch remover.

yup, be careful whenever using a rubbing compound, it can wear through a clearcoat pretty quick. From the sounds of it a nice light scratch remover will do the trick

im not the biggest meguiar's fan, but scratch-x worked great for me last night. it took all the scuffs out of the bumper and drastically improved the one scuff on the hood. its not big enough for me to worry about now. ill get the body shop to fix it when it goes in next week for the dents in the rear hatch

thanks for the advice all-
