I've been looking at all these good deals on race seats and seatbelts. But it's pretty hard for me to give up my comfortable OEM powered, heated leather seats. Also keep in mind that I daily drive the car, race seats would kill my back.

Just wonder if anyone is using any race seatbelts with their OEM seats? Is it even possible since the OEM seats don't have anything to hold onto the seatbelts. I'm thinking something like a custom head rest that allows the seatbelt to loop through. Any thought? Any PIC?!

^ Hmmm... that looks like it'd work. But it looks sorta weird ^^. I still believe a special headrest could be made to accommodate race seatbelts.

 

In a hard accident, unless the belts are fed through a hole or guide of some sort, there is a good chance that the belt may slip off the shoulder of the seat, which can cause you injury and not keep you tied in... It might be better to run the harnesses through the middle of the headrest, in between the two legs of the rest instead of outside of the legs...

Yes, its very possible, I dont have the pic right now, but you can get the long version Takata's and run them to the rear strut, there is a spot to mount them if you pull off all the plastic.

i hope you guys aren't looping the long version around the rear strut tower brace.. that would just be silly...

there is a decent mounting structure using the raw metal under the plastic. you could weld a mounting plate with two eye holes if u want to run a clip in belt connector- however it's always a smarter/safer idea to run racing harnesses only with a roll bar. there are harness bars (sparco) that are good for auto-x events where rollover isnt that much of a concern.. but still a risk.

Do you want to run racing harness on the street? or is this just a track day thing? fully sinched up, you wont be able to check your blind spots w/o help from your mirrors.
