Default HALP! Greddy Sides Question!

Hey guys I just got my GReddy sides back from the paint shop and noticed something odd. I didn't really get a chance to inspect these too closely before taking them to the shop so I am just now noticing this. See my photo below. Anyone who has experience with these side skirt please chime in.

The flange that runs the length of the skirt where the bolts and clips hold the bottom of the skirt in place on the bottom of the car (on the right side of the photo) seems to be at a pretty extreme angle with respect the the outer surface of the side skirt. I looked under my car now and saw that the OEM panel has a slight angle here, but this looks like I would have to bend it to fit it. (obviously I can't bend 100% fiberglass). I have not removed the OEM piece nor have I test fit this piece. I am just trying to deduce whether or not I will have a problem upon installation.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but if there is a problem I will want to know before ripping the car apart. Thanks in advance!!!!!

-steve

Steve,

Strange. That mounting point should be perpendicular to the side skirts (mounting point parallel to the side skirt, whichever way you are looking at it). It shouldn't be a problem though. My suggestion (if I'm seeing this correctly): let the skirt sit out in the sun for a while before mounting/installing it. This will allow the paint and the fiberglass more flexibility while installing. Hope this helps.

except that the skirt is fiberglass, and no amount of sun is going to change that angle. Would be different if its urethane

this is why you always should test fit before you paint...even when the part is OEM

Steve,

If you have any questions, feel free to call and talk to one of our body shop technicians. Good luck.

Thanks Darren, I surely will. I just went out to the car with one of the skirts (at 12:30 AM) and held it up to see what was going on. I won't know the full story until I try to install the thing, but it looks like these things will never fit...like once I hang it by the fasteners that go into the side of the car, I can't see how the ones in the bottom will be even close lining up. I'm hoping I get some sleep tonight....

Yeah but even test fitting wouldn't have done a world of good. UPS would not let me open the box to inspect the things before signing for them, so I had to just inspect the exterior of the box and sign for the package based on that. Even if I or the body shop had test fit these and found that they did not fit before painting, I would still be stuck with two pieces that don't fit.

Maybe they will fit in some miraculous way??? I sure wish someone else could take some pictures or had pictures of their side skirts before installing or something.

Z1 or Darren, do either of you guys have a set in stock that you could check out and compare????

right, but you wouldn't be stuck with painted pieces that don't fit...which is a far easier situation to be in

Sorry, I don't have any here to snap a picture of

another Life Lesson learned man.
I put on my kit a couple times before taking it to the paint place just to see my kit on my car.

Try test fitting it and take a picture of parts that do not fit.
maybe you could shave some, and use bolts/adhesive in different parts to hold it on and still look perfect.

Well we had to muscle them on, but they are on. We hung them by the top holes (into the side of the car), then put in the fasteners into the wheel wells, then had to put some serious pressure on the mounting tabs underneath the line up the holes and get the screws to start threading. They flexed a little but but not a lot. We didn't tighten the screws down too much. The passenger side skirt cracked a little bit in the rear upper corner but I think it is due to my helper pushing too hard : ( Anyway here are some washed out mid-day pics right after the install. More pics later when the sun goes down a bit. Overall I am happy with the side skirts, as long as the vibrations from daily driving do not harm the bottom tab as it is squeezed in there so tight.

Also, my plan is to take the car to a body shop to have that crack fixed. Does that seem like something they should be able to do with the skirt still mounted to the car, and without having to repaint the entire thing?

Here is a pic of the side skirt crack. It is the bright white sliver at the top corner of the piece. It was too sunny out to take a clear picture, so I will try to take a better one before sunset:

And even though it is off-topic and I posted this photo in another thread, here are the cracks in the VS lip:
