03 HID Headlight - Can anyone take it apart?
I got some condensation in my headlight. This is a brand new light and I dont want to have to get ANOTHER one. I have everything out of the light, but I cant get to the lense to dry it. It looks like it should come apart but im afraid to force it. Has anyone been able to do that???

Lay a piece of wet cardboard in an oven. Pre heat to 250 degrees and bake for 10 minutes. Then pull it apart.(Need 2 people.) It gets messy but take your time. Make sure you take out all screws before you pull it apart. reseal, puch back hard as you can then put silicone around the seals after you put them back together.
this has been done many times here so search for more detailed instructions.

Yes you can. This is what you do. Ive been doing this for a couple heads local.
Take the hid system off the headlight.
Remove the hold down screws around the light.
Preheat the oven to 250
Get a pizza pan or cooking sheet. Place a piece of cardboard ontop of that. Now place the headlight ontop of that with a wet towel over it to keep it from burning.
Do not have the Plastic touch anything but the wet towel or you will burn the clear film off the lense.
Put in the oven for 30mins. Remove the headlight and pry along slowly with a flat head screwdriver. Go all the way around the light.
Presto- Light should be removed.
Reuse the factory sealant. It is fine. But clean up the headlight and then do what you need to do. If you feel you need more sealant then be it. I use 3M black sealant you can find at Auto stores.
Put the bottom piece back in the oven for 10mins to heat it up.
Pull it out put more sealant where needed and push the top back in place.
You should pick up whats needed after that on your own.
good luck.
BTW i say 30mins as it makes it way easier to pull apart rather then 10.

I did it, but when you bake the headlight and try to pull the lense and black housing apart, be careful, the black housing has a lower melting temperature and gets really soft and will deform easily

Thanks for the ideas guys. But I took everything off the light I could, all the bulbs, wires, ballast, etc. I was doing this last night and got fed up with it when I couldnt get the lense off. So I just let it sit for the night sitting straight up on a towel. When I checked on it today, it was almost dry. Then after some time in the sun and a little help from a hair drier, I got it pretty much as good as new...completely dry.
So the beast is all back together now. I got a new wheel well cover in there so we shouldnt have this problem again! ::knock on wood:: Time to start researching custom sub installs (the next project).
