Im trying everything to cut some of that 3200 pound heft out of my Z. How much do the stock seats weigh? I’m thinking of switching to a sparco seat since they can be had at about 10.7 pounds, which I figure is considerably less than the stock cloths. Yes I am aware of the “ricer” implications of these seats. Thoughts? Any feedback concerning this possible switch? Looking for some help. Thanks.

As far as your question about the weight of the factory seats goes, I have nothing valuable to add. I bet the Sparcos are considerably lighter though.
IMO, anybody who cries rice on this is wrong. Seats are a very functional performance upgrade both through weight savings and superior lateral support. If I didn't have side air bags in my factory seats I'd have Sparcos right now.

i agree with you 100%, i dont think that these seats automatically call for an uncle ben's pic but i think it needs to be acknowledged that some do feel that aftermarket racing seats do have a certain rice element to them. That was my concern, im not a fan of people telling me im a ricer and focus on not earning that title

I agree, anything with a function is not rice, well most of the time it is not, stuff like big *** wing is rice. IE if you upgrade your break to say like brembo its not rice, painting them to look like brembo that's rice. Painting them will not make the break stop faster it just look cheap. But most of the time anything modded to a car someone will think it rice if it didn't come from the factory. For those people who want to like everybody else let them do so but if you want to get seat so it hold you around the track then it a great upgrade. Plus your Z will stay out from the rest of the stock Z. For people who wanna to buy kit for their car so their Z look different, more power to yah but please have some taste when picking the kit. Pick something that have a function. Most kit from japan have aero dynamic function but research 1st before you buy.

I have the side bags and curtains... but I am going to install my beloved Recaros..
Got rid of one bounce with the suspension swap.... and I still have one left -- the damn seats... the seat is too soft... and that bounces you as well...
Also, like you guys.. really miss the hip-huggers...

Guys...I replaced my driver seat with a Sparco Fighter seat...it's great. The seat itself is only 16lbs., but the wedge bracket used to mount the seat to the floor is a heavy beast. Overall vs. the driver seat with airbag, the weight savings is only about 10lbs...it is a hell of a lot nicer to drive though, with great thigh support if you have long legs...and obviously, lateral support is tremendous. You sit down in the sit, not on it.
Also, I found a guy in Maryland that gave me a solution to turn off the flashing airbag light once the stock seat is removed. It is a little wiring loop that splices in to the wires before the clip (the one that attaches to the wiring clip on the seat). It simply tells the computer that the airbag is still there. ALL of the other airbags remain completely functional, including the curtain and front on the drivers side...just not the side. I am going to try to to install it this weekend...but may not get to...not sure yet...have a wedding to attend. Regardless, I'll be sure to post more details and pics when I get it all ironed out. Answers are coming!

You guys are going to be the end of me...I'll try to get some up. It's been raining in my area for 2 weeks straight, and I've been traveling every weekend (and the upcoming ones)...it's killing me, and I'm having trouble finding any time to work on the car, etc. Ugh.
I haven't posted anything about the seat thus far, because I knew everybody would ask million questions and want pics!
Y'all are just going to have to be patient on this one. I'll take detailed pics of everything as soon as I get some time to finish the job. It will be worth the wait.

the ten pound savings is kind of a let down, i was hoping this would be a 25 pound a seat weight saver, guess that was me thinking a bit too wishfully. Still interested to see how they look though

I remember dwnshift saying that the stock seats were pretty hefty, although i do not recall any numbers.
I REALLY would like sparco seats but i dont want to get rid of my side airbags

imo, I think the aftermarket seats make the Z look *less expensive to say the least. If you put them in a car that does not have the looks and styles and the price of the Z then maybe it would look good. Just my opinion......
its all good
