Default 2 tint questions before my Thurs. appt.

Ok...before my Z gets tinted on Thursday I just have 2 questions

1. Are your door windows tinted all the way to the edge or is there like an 1/8" border going all the way around? If most of you have all the way to the edge and this guy tells me he can't do it...then Ill go else where to get tinted....I'm still kinda pissed he's charging me 200.00 cuz he says he cant get in the trunk.

2. As I was thinking about my car tinted I rememberd that when you open the door the window goes down slightly...without being in front of my car right now to test...how do you stop the window from going down...will taping the button down on the frame do it?

Thanks!

1. Mine is like within 1/32" from the edge. You can only tell when hte window is partial down and honestly it doesn't bother me at all.

2. You can tape it or disconnect the window switch itself inside the door. I had to get my tint redone due to the front edge on the door panels pulled it up some. The second time (obviously done for free) I just left my whole door panels off since they were off for some speaker work I was doing.

Default In my case ...

Morning, vice86!

I can only speak for myself ...

<<1. Are your door windows tinted all the way to the edge or is there like an 1/8" border going all the way around? Mine has about a 1/8th inch border going all the way around. It's truly barely noticable and doesn't at all look the hurt of the car. He can't get in the trunk? Wait, we have a trunk???? Seriously, they open the back up and tint it easy enough.

<<2. As I was thinking about my car tinted I rememberd that when you open the door the window goes down slightly...without being in front of my car right now to test...how do you stop the window from going down...will taping the button down on the frame do it?>>

There is a screw in the door frame of the car that stops this automatic window action when removed. However, I'd not do this at home as it leaves your windows at a height above the clearance. I learned about it as my tinter forgot to put one back and I found it on the floorboard as I drove home. They had to "confess".

One thing I didn't know to be aware of was that they stuck a little shop sticker with their shop logo and stating legal compliance in my driver side window. Even a "small sticker" in such a window as the Z has looks like a billboard so I told them to take it off.

Hope this helps! Hope you enjoy your tint as much as I do.

They should tint all the way to the edge on the doors and file the excess off. You should not settle for a novice tint job. If they can't even do this right what makes you think they can do anything else right.

Well this guy did my last car, my bros car, my sisters car and my friends car and does a good job...ofcourse there may be a tiny bubble here or there but I dont think anyone can do a 100% PERFECT tint job...i just wanted to know if going to the edge of the window would cause a problem when you closed the door.

Is it easy to get the door panel off? I'm afraid of all that stuff they spray on the windows to apply the tint may ruin the door panel...but then again I think its just soapy water he's using in a spray bottle.

In response to your second concern I had the same problem. Waht the tint shop did was disconnect the sensors so it would stay up. But be very careful while these sensors are off because if you try to close the door with the window all the way up you will shatter the glass. If he says he cant get to the back hes lying. The guy who did it for me climbed into the hatch so that he could do it.

Well the guy never did a Z before...so he's assuming its gonna take longer since he says he cant get into the back...he's not huge or anything...he just never tinted one before. I'd do it myself if I could but you can only get the crappy tint from stores that turn purple after a year.

All I can do is stress to him to be VERY CAREFULL WITH MY Z...i dotn want him leaning against the body....dont get fingerprints all over it...tint carefully...dont smoke and then get in my car...thats not asking to much ...is it?

Not sure why you guys are paying so much for tint? I paid 100$ and I got my 4door Alitima tinted for $130.
$200 is outragous

My windows are all the way to the edge. My guy does all my previous cars, my friends, and my fiance's. Never a complain and life time warranty.

He tints the entire window and use a cutter to shave the extra off the edge of the window. Even if I open my door, you can't see any edge. It's all tinted. As for the trunk, he removed the brake light assembly to tint the whole rear window. Nice and clean.

Well, you got your 2nd question answered already!! Good luck!

I kept thinking how this is the guys first Z...and then his tinting procedure...he smokes as he's not in the car...poor lighting...I called and found another place to do it now. 180.00 total plus the guy has done 2 Z's already. I asked him if he'd do over if I dont liek it...he says on a car of that caliber he does a perfect job...plastic on the inside as to not mess it up.

No way i was taking a chance with that other guy...he'd forget to activate the window thing and break my window.

It could be a sales pitch just to get your business. I'd ask someone in your area with a Z tinted already for referral!!

it should go to the edge, they need to get the tint BELOW the seal WHEN THE WINDOW IS IN FULL UP POSITION, this requires them to pull the seal away and get it down there, otherwise remove the door panel to expose the entire sheet of glass, my installer did the second method,

they can lay in the trunk to get the rear window, no it isnt easy, if it were, wed do it ourselves.

200$ is alot, not unreasonable, but you should be getting top notch work for that price.

its not hard if you know what your doing, just a few screws holding it on, but if they just start hacking away at it, Im sure its easy to messup.

I was the 13th Z that my place did, so I pulled in and they had the screw driver in hand, knowing exactly how they were going to do it.
