Default i got a question for the SHAVED EMBLEM peoples

wussup all...

i was wondering when you got your emblem shaved/filled in, did the body shop say anything about how its such a big hole to fill that it may not last forever and may crack??? i went to get my car estimated today because someone hit me and yeh. if it does start crumbling down later on, i could just slap back on the emblem right??? thanks for the feed

i dont have a shaved emblem but i got a quote for it a while back. the guy never said anything about it cracking or anything. you need to take it to another body shop cuz it sounds like they arent using good material...how much did u get quoted?

i did mine in my garage. i usede everglass. its a fiberglass bondo mix, and doesnt trap air or moisture in it. its somewhat expensive ($80 for half gallon), but it does work well.

A really good body shop would weld in some sheet metal, and then sand smooth. Just like how they restore some old cars. but it would be more expensive, but it should not be that much.

I didn't think there were holes under the emblems. Or is that only on the G coupe?

I like the shaved front bumper look, AND NO it will not crack if done properly.
IF the whole indention was filled with plastic filler then yea it could crack. BUT a good body man will know that you must fill the majority up with kitty hair fiber glass, then go over that with plastic filler than some glazing puddy.

I like the front bumper shaved with the air duct on the side.

and no again you cannot slap the emblem back on if the plastic filler cracks, If the plastic filler cracks it will pull off, taking surrounding paint along with it.

I had my bodyman fill mine in. I could not find a front bumper I liked and all the aftermarket emblems did not have the look I was looking for. He used the flexible bumper repair filler to do it. What is nice is the smooth front end gives the car a wider stance which I was looking for.

Are we talking about front bumper here or the rear hatch?

Yes, both can be filled and no, they won't crack if done right.

how do you weld sheetmetal to plastic/frp, etc (front bumper)?

a good body shop should have 0 issue with such a procedure. If they are giving you a warning now that it might crack, I'd find a different body shop - one that will guarantee their work, or not take it on in the first place

Vallini, your 07+ black Z is SEXY as hell with emblem removed that is slick as hellllll! Maybe I won't get the air duct put back on (recently got into an accident and I'm repairing it)..hmmmmmmm yea, your car is clean as helllll!!!!! mad props. (what rear spoiler is that? Blitz?)

btw no hard feelings or anything, but i still see the indention.

And for the sheet metal welding, I think he was talking about the rear hatch. That is possible, but way too much work to fill in 2 little holes.

Thank you for the compliment, as for the spoiler it is the Stillen V1 it covered the holes on the rear hatch and breaks up the round butt and doesn't stick out too much.

The bodyshop that did mine filled it with carbon fiber & gave a lifetime guarantee that it won't crack. Another bodyshop quoted me a much cheaper price but said it may crack and reccomended that i leave the badge there
