Default Bent Jack Points...

So Ive changed my oil and transmission fluid on my cars since I was 16, so 10 years. I jacked up the 350 last night to do a tranny and diff. fluid change and notice the jack points in the front were a little bent from changing my oil a month or so ago. Ive never had this happen before. after jacking my car up again, they bent...again. at this rate they will be a mangled mess in no time. any tricks? Did Nissan use recycled pop cans when they made the jack points or what? The back ones are fine, nice and sturdy. I know its not a HUGE deal, but irritating none the less.

Thanks!

Mine are a mangled mess... I hate it, but there's nothing for it... 63K miles worth of maint. takes it's toll.

Question

Get yourself one of these? Make sure one of the sizes matches the hole in your jack. Mine didn't so I just made my own size adapter on a lathe.

Last car I owned, using the factory jack points, eventually the lip rolls over and starts to bend. Best to avoid it if you can. Just for one reason, if you ever need the emergency jack on the road it would be great if you actually had a place to use it!

My opinion: the "jack points" under each door are only good for the scissor jack from the trunk (or the adaptor bjr points out, if the dimensions are the same). There are Nissan-specified front and rear center jack points you should use with your floor jack. Stands go under the subframes where it's largest and thickest, which would either be suspension mounts or frame-to-body mounts.

Nissan suggests a thick plastic pad for the floor jack rather than the usual steel cup. I bought a 12x12x1" slab o' UHMW polyethylene from McMaster and cut myself a 4" square to use on my floor jack. A bolt and nut filed round made a nice stud for it that fits in the hole in the jack. $28 for the slab and I have 3/4 left over for something else...

it is because the car is a uni-body and not a frame, it is meant to bend like that, you can jack the car from almost any position

Yes the cut jack from the trunk wont bend it

try folding up a towel and putting it between the car and your jack/stands might help

I ran into the same problem. I just laid some plywood that was layin' around for another inch or two and then used a floor jack to find a good spot on the frame. In the rear I just put one on the pumpkin. Also, if your jack has a metal plate on it, use a rag or something to keep the metal from ripping off the under-coating.

ive lifted my car like 4 times on both sides on the front with a floor jack. mine are also a mess. Its not a big deal but it really pisses me off. The sides where the scissor jack point are very bent. but hey its not like anyone sees it. from now on im just gonna be more careful and jack it from the places everyone says they do.

I jack my car up with a floor jack from the front where the subframe is bolted to the unit body. I neve have any issues. If you look at the Nissan service manual it states an adapter should be used on floor jacks so as not to bend the seam.

WRONG

I just saw off a 2x4 block of wood and use it on top of the jack. I have to use it anyway so the jack will clear the side skirt so it works fine.
