There are plastic clips which locate the front of the headliner (HL). Also, don't forget there is a electrical connector (for the map and interior lights)that needs to be disconnected before the HL can be removed.

I'm planning to paint the headliner this weekend and sat in the Z on break and I just don't see how it is possible to get that whole piece out of the Z?!?! Do I have to bend it or something to get it out? and is it best to get out through the hatch?

If I remember we had to take it out through the hatch....taking all the side panels, seatbelts, etc.....off.

I reached in between the headliner and the roof from the passenger side with my right hand and disconnected the map light wire connecter. Then I simply pushed down (with my right hand) on the map light/sunglass holder towards the shifter. It does take some force. It's just a clip and it will come loose, don't worry. Once you get it loose rotate the liner 90 degrees and pull it out through the hatch. Also it's much easier to get it out if the seats are all the way forward.
