03 lights in 06+headlight housing

Default 03 lights in 06+headlight housing

will the 03-04 HID igniter/bulbs etc work with the 06+ headlight housing?

03-05 HIDs are D2R and 06-08 HIDs are D2S. They are the same bulbs with different notches at the base. You can use a D2R bulb in a D2S socket by dremeling an extra notch into the D2R base. Let me get a picture of both bulbs and I will show you.

I'm not sure about the ballast. I know they are very similar and look about the same size. The only thing I would be worried about is mounting it. Not sure if the holes line up.

They are not the same. D2r bulbs have a ceramic shielding painted on the glass to limit glare in reflector housings. When used in projector d2s housing, they will have less output than a d2s bulb. You can scrape the ceramic shielding off, but it will still never be the same as a d2s bulb

Yes, I swapped my 03 lights with a guy that had an 06. Plug and play for both of us.

+1. Plus, the scraping is a lot of work for what? And, remember you can't get any body oils on the glass or they will prematurely fail. Buy the correct bulb.
