Question Installing new HIDs... easy? What do I look for?

I'm looking into getting some 8000k or 10000k HID replacement bulbs. How hard is the swap out on the Z? What should I look for in a bulb?

does anyone have instructions on how to do this or should my manual cover it?

Look for a major manufacture of OEM lighting not some cheap autozone crap from China.

Study color and Kelvin before buying.

There are several DIY threads.

The ones I am looking for are those crisp white/blue ones, not the purple or deep blue ones. 10000k seems about right.

I am looking at a pair on ebay made in Germany, not China.

around 6k is the optimal color because it represents daylight. anything above that will have depreciating returns. The color will be bluer but won't be any brighter. 8k is good I think.

I believe some car manufacturers use 4300k bulbs. I have a set of BMW HIDs in my room and they are Philips 4300k bulbs (anyone need oem bmw hids??) If you are looking for "crisp white" hids, then 6000k is the highest you should go. 8k bulbs show a some blue, and 10k bulbs are basically all blue. So do some better research before you purchase these hids...

5k bulbs should be right on point if you want all white HIDs

I could maybe see moving to a 6000K ultinon. Talking about how 8000K or 10000K are even a possibility just shows that you need to do more research

+1 5000k or 6000k should be would you are looking for. They prob would look good and not so "ricer-bluish"

As far as I know, for the most part, most manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, and Nissan use 4100k for Stock HIDs. BMW uses 4300k. 6000k will be a little blue and you will suffer a little loss in light. For optimum white-ness and brightness I would probably suggest you use 5000k bulbs. They're a tad blue and very bright.

HAHAHA! Sorry, but after that statement, I didn't even bother reading the rest of the thread. You have quite a bit of research to do, and not on the sites of ricetastic bulb manufacturers since they feed this kind of crap to gullible masses.

I've said it a million times here before and will say it again: the HIGHER you go in Kelvin ratings (from OEM), the DARKER the light output gets, NOT WHITER!
