Default PIAA HID Replacement Lamps

Hey guys,

I was just curious if anyone has tried these, or know if they work or anything. I know they're expensive. : ( But I feel like my stock HIDs are not that bright. And these are also more white looking since they're 6600K. Anyway, here's the link. Just curious about them and thinking about buying...

Thanks!

6600K is far from white. Thats going to be more of a blue with a hint of purple me thinks.

The rule of thumb I've heard is anything over 4300-4600k results in increased Kelvin (color change) but less effective lumens output.

If you goal is brighter output, going to anything above stock is dumb. You lose output as the kelvins increase significantly. A 6000k philips ultinon bulb have 25+% less output than stock

Me thinks....

that had nothing to do with what I asked. I have bought plug and play kits in the past for other cars and on my last one I had a 6000K kit which was pretty much white and blue. The stockers are 3300K from what I hear, and I dont want necessarily a bright output. Just a white look. BTW Didn't say that I wanted a white bulb. I said that these will be closer to white seeing as how mine are like yellow. Don't show me a chart like I don't know what Im talking about. I have taken physics classes and have studied color temperatures, etc...and have done my research. I just wanted to know if anyone had used these and what they thought. If not, then don't give me your senseless knowledge that wont help my decision to buy.

Thanks, have a great evening.

LOL at contradictory statements!
I don't see what's useless about the chart posted. Although he didn't answer your question, he did address an issue that he saw with what you want. I doubt he meant to present any bit of hostility.
OP needs a chill pill.

The stockers are not 3300K, probably 4100 or 4300K. 3300 is yellow which would be good for fog lights in adverse weather. I had them in my 06 Tiburon and they were awesome, but I had them mostly for the contrast of yellow/blue which I think looks nice.

5000K is the best compromise between performance and looks. I've owned 4300K, 5000K, and 6000K... The 4300K was definately the brightest but didnt have that nice bluish tint until after several months of driving once they started to colorshift.

The 5000K is still pretty bright but has a nice bright white with a bit of blue in it... 6000K is pretty blue and you start to notice a decent drop in brightness.

Anything above 6000K is pure rice as far as i'm concerned.... i've seen some cars with over that and they get pretty useless.

The Z's stock HIDs in the 03-05's is quite poor in terms of brightness, I myself want to upgrade. I will likely be upgrading to 55W from the OEM 35W. The HID capsules wont last as long but I think it'll be worth it. The 06 headlamp which is finally a true projector and not this hybrid reflector with projector lens crap works a lot better, but still isn't on-par with Lexus/BMW HID's.

You can still upgrade to 55W, if you can find any decent kits around... a lot of people will frown upon this because your not sticking with OEM quality stuff, not only that but technically any mods to your vehicles safety equipment (yes, headlights are safety equip) is illegal unless it is a DOT approved add-on or replacement. Most of the time the cops will never bother you about it though unless your blinding everyone which shouldn't be a problem with us.

I'm still waiting on lightwerkz to get 55W D2R kits in for my 04Z... I think my right HID is about to go out as its starting to get pink and having problems igniting.
