Whats up, either my bodyman is retarded or I have a bad Mastergrade hatch that I purchased from Jim. Before excepting the package my bodyman was sure to check for and structural defects, chips and cracks..etc. My hatch seems to be maybe 3/4 inch off from the roofline of my car, the whole hatch is off, the side windows show a gap as well as the rear not sitting flush with the car. I simply told my bodyman to readjust the hinges and his reply was if he does I wont be able to open the hatch because the top will be so close the window will hit the roof. I drove it to ZdayZ like this and I saw a few people looking and noticed it quickly. From the pics do I have a defective piece or my bodyman is subpar?

Did he use spacers or something between the hatch and the hinges to get it to sit that far back? I don't see how else it would fit like that.

And if you move it closer (like its supposed to be) it is not going to hit against the roof, thats nonsense. The angles are all wrong for that. Get a friend to help you, and fix that ish yourself. I put my hatch on half drunk with my weak a$$ girlfriend helping me out, and it fits better then that. lol.

 

yea ur bodyman is retarted, there is alot of adjustment in the hatch, just pull the back of the headliner down and adjust the hinges them selves or try adjusting the hatch agian

 

Ok, so I can adjust the hinges themselves, if so, how so? I had my bodyman install it, so I dont know what to look for, thanks for the replies.

I did see the gap at zdayz. Its a fair sized gap. I have been thinking of getting one. Ya moving the hatch is super easy. Good luck.

 

Try taking the hatch struts off and close it. The struts are to strong for the light weight hatch. My Seibon did the same thing. You can buy the CF hatch struts from Jim. This should correct the problem.

 

I put my MG hatch on myself right before ZDAYZ. And instead of having that gap you have, the sides of mine don't come anywhere near sitting flush with the roof or pillars. But i think yours can be fixed, just take a look at it yourself. It's not hard at all.

Are you sure it is not something with the install? i've never seen anything like that. have you tried bringing it to another shop?

Can you snap some pictures of the install area, like the underside by the hinges and whatnot?

No, I didnt think the hatch struts would effect how close the hatch sat in the closed position from the roof.

 

so did you even try to adjust it yet? or did you try taking it to someone else?

 

WOW that pic looked awful [showing the gap from hatch to roof] but dont give up on the product just yet i'd get a second opinion from another shop and see if they can readjust it and im pretty sure it'd sit a bit more flush like you want

I have a friend that got a bad mg hatch also. I think he is just living with the fitment. Its not as bad as shown above though.

 

I have the same Mastergrade hatch as well. I honestly think that it needs to be adjusted a little bit more to make a good fitment. I agree with everyone else who suggested to bring your car to another shop. I highly doubt that the shop that installed you hatch knew what they were doing, or have experienced with this hatch. My shop had no problems or what so ever with it, the hatch just bolted right up to the stock hinge, though they had to adjust it slightly. Here are some pics of the process.....fitment was about 95%

 

lol your bodyshop is not qualified to do this install, apparently. Why not try to readjust it with a friend or two to help out, it seems it's just a matter of alignment and adjustment to make it fit properly.

 

From the pics you posted, it's obviously the four nuts that secure the two brackets is either not tight enough or your bodyshop bent the hinges when they removed your stock hatch. From the rear pic you posted of your Z, it can be clearly seen that the end of the hatch that meets the bumper sticks out a little too much and is not flush with your rear bumper. Take a look at your hinges with the hatch open and see if the bracket is fully tighten to the body.

If the above mentioned looks to be good. Maybe its a defective hatch. For my MG hatch, I had to readjust it a little more to get it looking close to fitting like stock.
