Default Fire extinguisher install.

Been meaning to get around to doing this, always feel weird when anything fuel related is modded, so I like to have an extinguisher on hand.

I could have mounted a nice shiny APC FE on the A pillar, but just like my old turbo civic, I want to leave the show at home, even more so when if you were trapped you wouldn't be able to reach it.

I picked up a standard fire extinguisher from home depot,

Suitable for use on Class A (trash, wood, & paper), Class B (liquids & gases) and Clas C fires (energized electrical equipment). The Full Home unit is fitted with a pressure gauge that provides at-a-glance status, is manufactured from lightwieght aluminum and a tough nylon valve assembly.
Also picked up a pack of bolts and nuts, and a strip of metal that was pre drilled. Cut the metal piece in half then used it to help reinforce the piece of carpet/board I used to mount the FE on.

All said and done, I'm out around $15.00 total. Took about 5 minutes to install it.

Nice, probably the best/cheap insurance for all FI'd Z. Glad you didn't put it on the pillar though

Could you explain how it is better in the "glove" then the a pillar?

Only thing I can think of is one seat?

Because If I'm strapped down to my seat and can't get up, I can easily reach the glove box, even with the passenger seat, their is a lever behind the seat that flips it forward so you don't have to reach over the seat, just behind it, also with the seat in place, I can still get it open enough to pull it out.

On the other hand I cannot reach the A pillar, keep in mind, most rice boys put it on the passenger side A Pillar.

2 reason not to put it on the drivers side a pillar,

1. Gauges are already there.

2. Nothing like running into something and having your head swing forward only to hit the solid extinguisher. On top of that it would really hurt visibility unless you get one of those dinky ones that don't have enough power to put anything out.

Good thread Jeffie... I think a FE is something a lot of guys with modded fuel systems should have but probably dont.

I have a similar one to yours, but am having trouble figuring out where to put it. Can't use your idea because I have non reclinable seats and a roll bar. I will probably end up mounting it to the roll bar itself, on the diagonal brace part of it, just need to get some mounts.

I had one when I had my modded Z31 turbo, just left it sitting in the passenger floorboard though... cars like the z33 are to nice to pull that off. Nice install man, A-pillar extinguishers look ricerish.

I saw one of these Safecraft PB's installed in front of the drivers seat of a 911GTR I sat in once and it was right there if you needed it and wasn't in the way. I wanted to get one but they are about $320 plus $120 for the bracket, so I ended up getting a much cheaper one and mounting in front of the drivers seat.

It's a good piece of insurance to have since my insurance won't cover a dime of the 8 grand in mods.

This isn't just cheap insurance for modded cars... its cheap insurance for everyone! You never know when something like this can come in handy, may not even be YOUR car!

Where did you get that quick-release strap? I would consider doing something like this in my STOCK Z, particularly since its out the way so people won't give me sh*t about having an extinguisher in a stock Z.

If you're asking me, the strap shown in the picture comes with it.
12.xx for both, all you need is some screws and a piece of metal to back it or maybe some really big washers with a small hole for the bolts.

Hmmm was just looking at the Safecraft site again and I was mistaken. For $330 (polished version) it does actually come with a flat mounting bracket, not an $120 extra.

I might have to think about it now.

I get a kick out of the people that mount their extinguisher on the passenger A pillar. See it done all the time around my town. I wonder how many people actually stopped to think that if their airbags go off that extinguisher has just become an airborne projectile. not to mention you cant reach the damn thing if you needed to.
