I know this is an old thread and for some reason no one has thought of something muchhh simpler. Ive thought about doing this but don't have the money, why not just get a zr and buy a carbon fiber latch put a roll cage on it take off the trunk lid and ehh well yeah that's pretty much it some adjusments here and there and your latch makes it look like a targa top and no need to reinforce.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I have a ZR and I would love to have a hardtop/T-top option that would attach using the existing connection points and latches for the soft top. I guess I would have to find a wrecked coupe and build it from that, but I think that it would be sweet to have a hardtop for the winter that 1) Looks good, 2) Cuts down on highway wind noise, and 3) Could possibly save me from having to buy a full custom rollcage for my roadster to participate in any autox/racing events.
Now I wonder if you could get a rollcage in the ZR that wouldn't interfere with the softop operation. I bet it can be done.... and will be A LOT safer than a standard coupe roof.

I agree it would be nice to have a good looking removable hard top for our ZR's.... BUT if I were you, i'd install a rollcage anyway if your going to track the car. I've seen a few track day videos where the car rolled over, and even with a coupe and a normal roof, some of them were F*CKED bad...
