Hey i have a base 350z and i have a basic mirror. Now the question is, can i take the mirror from the fx (which has garage door opener + compass + dimming) or from a g35 and put it in the 350 and make it fully fuctional?
Im sure it needs the 12v current so anyone know if its possible to put one of those mirrors into my z and get the juice somewhere from the dome light place?
Thanks in advace!

Nissan has available the mirror you're looking for including the wiring, etc.

Yes i am fully aware of that, but i have access to low cost mirrors from fx, pathfinders etc, now the question still stands, is it spossible to somehow get the power fom the dome area? im sure the nissan part u have showed me is pretty much the same as the fx or pathfinder mirror, nissan afterall...
you probably could, but the hassle to do so would be a waste of time...you get what you pay for so to say. so if your going to do a CoCoMo Kinda job...dont bother i'd say!!!
It's easy to get a bunch of non answers on here.
I'm not sure anyone has ever tried it but it could certainly be done. You should do it, take some pics and do a write up about it.
I have no idea, but I can write some logical thoughts that might get you started.
The homelink, autodimming, and compass electronics are contained entirely in the mirror assembly, so no extra parts are needed. It must have 2 power wires because (in stock configuration) the homelink stuff is hot all the time (whether the key is in or not) and the dimming and compass circuits only work on with the key on.
Yes you could get power from the dome lights. That power would be constant power because the dome lights can be turned on whether the key is in or not. Perfect for the homelink stuff (if you want it hot all the time).
I don't think there is any ignition power up there however. You will likely have to run new wiring that provides power when the key is on.
It might be a long shot, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the wiring is already there, taped up in the headliner somewhere. I don't know how Nissan does it but I know for fact that many Chrysler and Jeep models prewire stuff like compass mirrors and cruise control whether the car has it from the factory or not. It makes the assembly line more uniform and it allows for more sales of dealer accessories.

LISTEN to RN7676....
He's right on the money...
The only thing i see that hasnt been mentioned is:
You need to double check is the actual physical mounting of the mirror on the glass...most have a "U" shaped piece of aluminum cast that is glass to metal glued to the glass that accepts the stock mirror......i would double check that with the mirror mount on the FX/pathfinder you pulled the homelink equipped mirror from as i have seen the mounts to change between models...
Easy fix for that though...its called a new aluminum mount and some "glass to metal" adheasive epoxy.
Ive looked into this as im gonna buy a homelink for our "non standard" equiped Nissan Xterra, but im gonna pull ignition power, because i dont want someone to bust our window, press the button and have access to our garage...

I've been thinking about doing the same but only if the connection is right there under the headliner..I'm just lazy to check under!!
You could do a write up with pictures once done and sure it would be useful for the rest of the members.
Good luck..

there's only a socket for the wires from the homelink mirror to go into to. i have my out and there no plug, unless somebody took it. got me car used. i got the mirror from a junkyard and doing the wiring for it.
side note....there's no plugs for the visors either....does the base have visors with lights? got some visors but there's nothing to plug the wires into.
