Default Need to replace headlights on my 03. Suggestions please.

Ok. I almost hit someone last night at 2am. I've been feeling lately that my headlights have become unsafe. Before I talked about doing those CinCity headlights until I found out their price. I called Nissan today and gave them my VIN. They told me I had Xenon's and to replace my housing alone was $657 probably not including labor. The inside lense of my headlights are starting to get cloudy and I already had my detail shop use Plastix on the outside last week. This is a 2003, so the lights are close to 5 years old now, aren't as bright and that's understandable to me. I've only changed bulbs before in 1 car and it was a Civic, so this is beyond my abilities.

Is there any safe way for me to use Plastix on the inside of the lense or is that impossible? As far as bulbs go, do I look into those HID conversions? Do I buy a new set of projector headlights off Ebay? I don't care if they are garbage, I don't have $1000 to spend on these. I want and need brighter lights... End of story.

I say do a weekend project by removing the headlights, and taking the housing apart and polishing the inside. And since you're not HID, use the silverstar bulbs, those were great on my celica, and pretty affordable I think. if anything I think it's just going to cost you under a bill for cleaner for the housing, and the two bulbs...that's not bad I think.

Yes, silverstar is what I used on my Civic. Great lights. I do not think I would be capable of getting the housing apart. Way too afraid of damaging it. What if I just switch to HID? The output would be a lot brighter, right? Maybe the 5000 or 6000 white HID?

If you have anything but a base and I believe you do since the dealer told you you had Xenons, you should already have HIDs, also the stock is pretty much the brightest (4300K) maybe 5000K would be brighter. Anyway, you could buy some used xenon headlights that are oem on ebay, or open up and polish.

+1 Thank you! I do have enthusiast model. Yeah, really dont want to open them up. May just look for used set on here. I've seen pics of HID conversions on here and the 6000k looks a lot brighter than 4300k??

be careful when looking at pictures of lights cause most pics don't depict the color and intensity of the light as you would see them in person

Remember one thing about Higher Kelvin Bulbs... The higher you go in Kelvin (6000K, 8000K) the shorter the distance of lighting you attain... I have the 6000k bulbs from some no name place which were decently priced and honestly look good, but honestly if I had to do it over again, I would get the 5000k...

The 6000k starts to become more bluish, than white in lighting which shortened my view distance... If anything, from reading prior posts about bulbs... try to look for phillips D2R 5000k stock bulbs model #85122+, a prior post stated they are rated at 5000k and are upgraded versions of the bulbs that came from 03-05 models which have a tendency to turn bluish as they die, the upgraded versions dont... they maintain the same color through its length...
