A guy on VWVortex died with a roll cage in his car. He owned a GTI and the cage was a lot like the one posted on the first page of this post. The main hoop was close to the seat and he was hit from the side his head hit the roll cage. The trauma killed him. If he didn't have the cage in the car he would have lived.
If you can even get remotely close to the cage with your head it's seriously dangerous to have a roll cage in a street car. Even with roll bar padding a hit from the head to the cage could be a serious problem for you. There are some paddings that pass (BSCI Roll cage padding) testing for vehicle saftey, but they are ugly and most people don't run them.
Honestly unless you are doing serious motor sports and wear a helmet all the time, don't even think about a roll cage in a street car. It's a serious hazard.
Look at where the cage is in relationship to the seats in a GT3:
vs. this..
That is majorly dangerous. Listen I'm not trying to be a dick, this has happened and people have died from having a cage in a street car. The cage is so close to your seat, if you were in an accident the likely hood of you having a serious head injury from that cage is really high. At bare minimum you need 2" of foam padding around all areas 12" or so from any body part.

Its part of the risk of modifying your car, same as removing the airbags. Its your car, your life. I personally would rather not live forever anyway.
Regardless, that is pretty much the only location that the main hoop can be placed in our cars due to the design.

one thing I should point out too - that car has not been driven a single 1/10th of a mile yet, nor will it, till padding is installed So far all it's done is pull in and out of the garage. Just didn't want anyone to think it's being driven as pictured

I used to have an image showing the visibility out of the back window, but unfortunately that image is on my old hard drive. I have some Kirk racing pics here though. Hope this helps the OP a bit.

currently sourcing my options, but i need to know how much room someone who is 6'5 will have with a set of Bride Digo's installed, I currently sit with my seat as far back as it goes and I want to be able to do the same with a roll bar.
Anyone 6'5 here have this roll bar? if so can you email me with your input as i don't want to spend a ton of cash on shipping and duty for something that i would have to turn around and resell because it wouldn't work for me.

I personally like the Enjuku harness bar better. It's not a roll bar as it really wouldn't protect you if your car rolled but if you get into a wreck it would definitely help. It also allows you to move the seats farther back and also be able to open the storage compartments behind the passenger seat. The price is like 400 for a new one. Just google enuku bar and you will find what you need.
