03-05 Headlight Mod
My br0 Dr. Venture is working on modding my 2003 headlights. I knew I wanted something different, but wasn't sure how I wanted them done. I have a PPW and considered doing the housing white, but then settled on black. At first, he did a flat black color (reminiscent of that "Batman" black color), but then we went with a bit of a shinier black. Also, I started with the red "demon eye", but settled on the blue. Here are some pics of the progress...I think it's coming along nicely and will look really good when completed.

If you're referring to the diffusers that replace the amber strip, then yes.

Im not allowed to sell anything on the site. In which i wasn't, i was just showing my craftsmanship work on your and some other friends lights. I did mention other idea's i had as well, not to mention i tried to help anyone who had asked me questions on "how to" so pending legal matters it's been removed. Since the "mod" has a few threads of DIY i don't know what the big deal is but hey such is life.
Also other manufacturers of this mod have been asking questions if im "selling" or "copying" the mod. NO im not pushing any sale of this mod. As far as copying, there are many DIY threads with complete directions of doing this mod on your own. So it's nothing NEW or nothing that requires expert skills. BUT, on the same note i (or anyone else) wont deny some $ if anyone decides they want me to do it for them.
Thanks!

Ah.... Duke. Two things:
First, I hope these are a spare / backup set of lamps and not the ones directly from your car. Reason is, painting the reflectors black really destroys your light output on the 03-05 lamps. These are not true projectors, the chrome reflector is responsible for a huge portion of the light output from the HIDs illuminating the road. By painting it black, a huge amount of reflectivity has been reduced and you're going to find your headlights are nowhere near as effective as before. There's no way to "undo" the paint either, you can try repainting them with a chrome reflective paint, but I don't think you'll get the same results as the original reflector. Hopefully it's not too bad, but I don't have high hopes on the light output. Most of what you're going to get is the limited amount reflected and what comes directly straight off the bulb.
Second, I'm not too sure about the blue either. Everything else on your car has been done red, why start going with completely different colors? Unless the theme is patriotic panda bear. But your car, your call on what color to go with. I'm sure the blue looks good by itself, just don't think it ties together with the rest of the car, at all and it'll be more apparent once its on the car.

Ruin his dreams? Its nothing more than the truth about how the lights function. If I had known he was thinking about it up front, I would've told Duke in advance to save him the hassle and headache. Yeah, it looks cool, but it's just not safe and it's ILLEGAL. There's no question he'll fail inspection with the reflectors painted. My question is did you recognize this and inform him of the risks prior to painting them?
Only way around it is to upgrade to the '06+ projectors. You can't paint the reflector without affecting light output.

Don't get me wrong, I think the blue is sweet too, your car's just getting a little eclectic. Though it's not too late to do the engine stuff in blue, and perhaps your brakes. I think that would look pretty awesome, tbqh.
