Default Was doing some searching on headlights (HID, etc.)

I have an 04 Base, and I read that the 03-05 dont have true projectors? But they have HIDs? It confused me, since coming from the TSX, I know what a projector looks like, and the one on my Z is sort of a half projector. The lights arent that bright, though. Would D2S bulbs do the trick? Do the non-HID headlights look like any other normal headlight, with just a bulb reflecting off of the back of the housing? If someone could clarify this, thatd be great.

If you have a base, you don't have xenon headlamps.

The 350z uses a hyrid projector, or "proflector," as some people say. The projector lens is there to sharpen the cutoff, and helps to soften the light output on the ground.

They use D2R bulbs, which are only used in reflector based lamps.

The output is nothing like a true projector, such as the Stanley made units that were on your TSX.

Many people upgrade to the 06+ headlamps, because they do utilize a true projector, and they have a solenoid which drops the cutoff shield to allow the light to disperse, thus being called a Bi-Xenon projector.

^ nice post. I have a base and upgraded to a HID kit. All the models have the same headlight assembly but the base has no starter/ballast or xenon bulb. It is a fairly easy upgrade that looks great and has a lot of functionality.

This is not true. The nonHID headlight housing uses h7 halogen projectors, which may appear to be the same as the HID version, are not. An h7 bulb and a d2r bulb have different bulb dimensions and are not interchangeable directly. Furthermore, 99% of HID kits used a rebased d2s bulb rather than a d2r bulb with the ceramic shielding, which should NOT under any circumstances be used in an 03-05 housing as it will cause significant amounts of glare for oncoming drivers.

oh, snap

So, redlude, what do you think I should use, besides the bi-xenons, to upgrade the light output?

If you can't afford the 06+ bixenons then purchase 03-05 OEM HID headlights. At a bare minimum I would use h7 to d2r convertors so you can use OEM d2r bulbs and ballasts with your headlights.
