Default Roll Cage Dilema

Alright so i now have a daily driver and I am turning my Z into a strict track car. My question is regarding roll cages. I have a couple options. I want something that bolts in, and has a harness bar.

First i contacted Kirk Racing and their roll cages are weld in, they have a 4point which includes the harness bar and the X braces but this is just a 4 point bar. Would still work though.

Then i contacted Autpower and they offer a full on 6 point race roll cage, x braces, door braces, etc. which seems great however the rear section of this is a weld in.

My last option is the Cusco 6 or 7pt cage which i beleive is complete bolt in, however no harness bar in this. I would need to buy a sparco or other brand harness bar which would be somewhat of a costly option, very bling though.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Just get Autpower and weld the rear in my opinion unless you have that much cash to toss into saftly then cusco all the way.

cusco cages aren't certified for any racing sanction... they just look cool in the sparkly blue metallic... i personally would not recommend them if the OP was serious about tracking.

if safety is a concern, do it right, and goto a shop that will custom fab a 6 or 8 point cage, welded onto reinforced mounting plates that's properly attached (read: welded) to the frame. and the ones that go straight through the dash, and not bent around it, with proper side impact beams, none of this detachable cross bars that are done to just pass tech inspection.

going custom, you can minimize the gap of the roll bar to the roof and fit whatever seat u want to run.

See the problem is that in PR a custom roll cage would be incredibly expensive and the quality would not be that great compared with the work i have seen done in the states.

Also the type of events i race in PR are time trial events, i would not be turning my Z into a T2 car for door to door racing for example, so i do not really need to worry about certification, just safety.

So far I am leaning towards Cusco with a Sparco harness bar.

Maybe they're more worried about the car than the driver's safety in Puerto Rico . . .

I track my car in Time Trial events, i don't necessarily need a roll cage for these events. There is no door to door racing in it so i don't need my cage to be certified.

I'm pretty sure the Cusco cage is a safe choice. Think about it, they would not manufacture a product that does not work, they most likely need to pass some safety standards. Didn't someone recently post a roll of a Subaru with a Cusco cage? said the cusco cage saved him.

What if you accidentally roll over or crash? It's like saying it is not necessary for you to wear a seat belt since there is no one else is driving on the road with you. Sometimes, things happen especially when racing is involved.

I didn't realize you didn't have to have a full roll cage for TT. IMO I wouldn't run without one for TT.

Confused on the harness bar. With any of the brands mentioned about they have a way to attached the harnesses. Why run both?

I thought Autopower, you can bolt it in, then weld all the joints plus the plates?

I would get just the four point weld in rollcage from autopower and then have a good fab shop weld it so that it is a 6 point with welded door bars.

I will most likely do this for my car since I get a good price on Autopower since I work with a dealer.
