Default driving without front bumper support

i noticed that when goin F/I some/most tt kits FMIC require removal of ur froun bumper support. how do you all feel about driving without it. arent yal scared if you get into an accident your motor will be sitting in your lap in a head on collision. whats yal's opinion

the way i see it........its give or take....

its a DOT standard to have things like bumper reinforcements and third brake lights, yada, yada....

look at cars in europe......none have bumper supports.....

I say, dont be a ricer and wreck your FI car showing off hitting another car........thats how most FI street cars die anyways.......well, from what ive seen...

FI track cars get wrecked in a track enviorment - that doesnt count....see cause -- you have to pay to play....

If you get in a head-on collision that will send the engine onto your lap...

1) The bumper support will do nothing to help you.
2) You'll probably be dead anyway, so who cares?

I have a Nismo V2 bumper, and don't have the support. Why? Because I prefer not ramming into people.

No worries, the motor mounts and firewall will keep the motor off your lap. It is only there to min motor damage in a wreck. If you remove it, your radiator is now serving the function of motor guard.

Its not any worse than using a racing steering wheel with no airbags!

there are a few picts of FI cars that have been in frontal accidents w/o the beam.

there was the Megan Racing 350z that went airborne into a tree, severe damage to the radiator frame, engine, etc.

there was also the Greddy prototype G35 TT that crashed and unfortunately the driver passed away. I thought i saw pictures of the car w/o the crash beam.. but i recall, several other factors lead to the driver's injuries...

my PE TT kit retains the crash beam. if it buys a few more inches of cushion and/or dissipates energy throughout the frame during impact, then its a little bit more peace of mind, however, i do drive with an aftermarket steering wheel and aftermarket bucket seats..

you can ALWAYS fabricate something to attach to the frame mounting points if you feel like it...imho, i would.. as far as the track car comment. if it was a full track car, there are other factors to keep the driver safe. like roll cage and side impact beams. if that were the case, and weight reduction was a higher priority. the front crash beam is probably moot point if you're sitting inside a properly designed safety cage.

i guess its up to the risk of the driver to make that decision.

PE kit, the 'tuner' version comes with just exhaust manifolds and turbos. no injectors or piping/IC.

this option came later... the original kits (circa 2003-05) came with a re-branded ARC intercooler. which was designed to fit behind the oem crash beam.

bucket seats as road hazards--well depends on how you look at it. Racing buckets, like the ones i use (Sparco) are FIA certified (which is a standard that most racing equipment mfg strive for), however some other companies are not and maybe questionable during impact.. even with FIA cert, there are different levels of standards within it... With aftermarket seats, then you get into the whole removal of the oem side seat airbag (if you had them) due to racing seats, or adjustable Recaros.. i would like to think with racing buckets, the amount of lateral support you had kept you in the seat more rather than sliding around during during impact, but that might put more strain on other parts of your body that may not be strapped down properly (i.e. your head, neck. etc) sorry for getting OT, but all these are valid concerns when changing anything vs OEM, since they took time to crashtest everything...
