Is this panel not made out of Aluminum? Is it going to rust? Will the dealership fix this with the corrosion warranty, or should I clean it up and cover it up with touch up paint? Has anyone else had this problem?

from my understanding, the corrosion warranty only covers "speed holes". your best bet is to touch it up yourself

Lulz. Just touch it up yourself! Is it even noticeable with the gas door shut? Yes if bare metal is exposed to H2O and Air it will rust.

yep rust. it's not as easy as just "touching up". that's how future rust happens down the road. you have to get rid of the rust first then touch it up.

It is an 08. And also, if it is aluminum it should not rust. So is this section steel?

For some reason you are banging that edge with the filler nozzle. A little touch-up paint will work.

Aluminum will corrode but will be white powdery deposits, if the buildup is orange then the metal is steel. if youre really concerned you need to remove it all, meaning you would have to take that section to bare (clean) metal then prime and repaint

I'm thinking about taking off about a centimeter in diameter of paint around each chip, and sanding it then priming and painting. This will be enough to be safe correct?

There are several touch-up threads in the detailing forum. Good reading.

That panel is not aluminum. Use touch up paint and it will be fine. That is only surface rust like what happens to your rotors when it rains and the car sits.
