Default Tried my hand at painting!

Well I decided to paint some stuff on the car. I used spray paint and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Here are the pics.

The other one is painted as well.

Overall it turned out great and I am very satisfied with the results.

If it's just basic spray paint I'm pretty sure it's going to peel straight off with heat and wear and tear...

you might want to strip them and use and adhesion promoter prior to painting them. Also I would recommend high temp paint.

results look nice though.

I did this to my stockers and they are lasting. 7 coats of black and 5 coats of clear coat. Light coats but many coats is the key.

Well it was paint for plastics but I don't know how it will hold up against the heat of the engine. Only time will tell. I am not to worried about the battery and brake cover. I will post pictures up later to let you all know how it is fairing.

Here was my process. I first cleaned with dishwashing liquid and then dried it. I then used a blue plastic base coat which was a little lighter than daytona blue. I sprayed 2-3 coats of that. Then I sprayed 2-3 coats of blue metallic fleck. This really comes close to daytona blue and even has that "sparkle" that is in the OEM paint. And finally I sprayed 2-3 clear coats on. Hopefully it will last for a while. Either way it was fun and I am proud of the result.

The Fluid and Battery covers should be fine since they don't see too much heat. I have seen people who have had the paint spider/ peel because of the paint they used. overall looks nice! now you gotta get off the cans and try your hand at a gun... Im still trying to get good at it.

those blue has too much orange peel effect. I guess it's not bad for a rattle can but if you do some sanding and polishing, rattle cans can look really good.

Using a spray gun is way different. I would suggest finding a well ventilated and covered area like a large shed or detached garage. If you use it in an attached garage I would seal off the door to the house or the fumes will get in. Breathing mask is a must.

Yeah...I live in an apartment so I don't exactly have any room. I did most of this indoor and outdoors so it won't be perfect. I wish there was a school you could go to for this.

my body shop guy can make a rattle can job look really nice.

even if you used a professional spray gun in a ventilated area, it will still come out to be the same just with less trash in the clear. It would still come out with orange peel. Orange peel is mostly from the clear coat. once you sand and buff, it will come out looking great.

for this, i would get a 2500 grit sand paper sheets, wet it really good and start spraying the engine cover with water. Start sanding it everywhere evenly.

This will make the engine cover very dull looking. you have to bring back the shine. use a heavy cut compound followed by a light polish and you are good to go. Should look very slick and nice.
