Default Cutting Bumper Piece

Hi guys, I have a question about my Ings Nspec rear bumper. I'd like to cut the centerpiece to expose my muffler and would like to know what the best way of cutting it is. It is made of PU. If I use dremel, will it leave rough edges? Your advices are appreciated!!!

Cut with any tool, even a dremel or other power tool.

Cut it 1/8" short of where you wanted to cut it.

Sand it down to the point where you wanted it and sand the edges smooth.

Don't expect it to happen quick. Take your time and your patience will pay off in the end.

Oh, and use a ruler/straight-edge and make a line where you want to sand to. This will give you a straight edge.

+10,000 on taking your time. Do what Spork said, and finish with a 600-800 grit sandpaper.

** Post pics when you got it done bc I have always wondered what that bumper would look like with the center "diffuser thing" cut out.

Wouldn't it leave like sand paper marks and scratches if I sand it down without repainting it? And you mean wet sanding right?

If you cut an already painted bumper, it's going to leave an unpainted edge and eventually lift at the edges and begin chipping off.

If you want it done right, do the process I posted and get it repainted/refinished.

I can't see there being anyway to preserve the paint without getting the bumper re-painted, at least in the long haul.

+1

If it hasn't been painted, I suggest using a straight edge and marking where you want to cut with a marker. Cut with Dremmel emery wheel, then use a fine metal file to shave off the edges. That's what I did to cut the grill out my front bumper...

I was going to chime in yesterday, but I let my bodyshop handle all of that. It was like a parachute back there before, I don't know how it would have stayed in place without the stock-style muffler to block airflow. I'm going back to the shop today so let me know if you want me to ask him what he used to cut it.
