Default Rear brace cover painting question

I painted by rear brace cover today. Flat black. I used some adhesion promoter but pretty sure it's not going to last.

I don't want to do the carbon fiber. I know that the gun metal grey ones from later years would fit but don't want that either.

Any information on how to prevent it from flaking would be appreciated or if you know of any after market ones besides CF.

You can cover it in some sort of material. I think I've seen someone on here cover it in velvet which didn't look too bad. Black leather might also look good

Thought about that, maybe a vinyl in a matching color but in the end I'm looking for something to keep the look roughly uniform back there... thanks

Well if you sanded and preped the part properly you won't have to worry about it flaking off.

My body shop did it. Primer, paint, and clear. Good to go.

+1 plus if you have tinted rear windows, it will help prolong the paint.

Thanx for the suggestion on the wrapping but I've decided. Going to primer tomorrow and hit it again with the flat black. THEN I'm putting on a new "Z" emblem that is chrome plated.

The original Z emblem coating had wrinkled up from heat / time. I was peeling that stuff off, figuring I would paint it red but then I broke it ...

I found the chrome plated ones at courtesy nissan. Pics tomorrow when I'm done.

$35 + shipping for two - same size and shape as OEM but much brighter. I think it will end up looking much better with the flat black against the chrome Z emblem.

I expect I will only need one so will be selling the other as long as I don't break the first one I work with.

Finished -

The "Z" emblem is chrome plated, much nicer than the stock one.

The finish could be smoother as I did not do any sanding but after primer and paint I used rubbing compound. Overall I'm happy with it.
