Default JDM tail install on an '07. Question.

I'm installing the JDM tails this morning, and obediently filed off the piece on the body plug that obviously needed to be filed off. Problem is, the entire indexing system on the JDM taillight is different than the US taillight. (Pics attached; the JDM tail is black; the US is red.) As you can see, there's a "double slot" on the left on one, and it's on the right on the other.

I suppose I could do the appropriate filing, but at this point I'm concerned that the electrical connections may also be opposite. I was assured that these were "plug and play," and they appear to be anything but.

Please advise.

Nevermind "why." I'm more interested in "how."

Did you go ahead and try to plug them in and turn them on?
I had the JDMs on my '05 and all that I did was filed the tab, then plugged them in.

They absolutely will not plug in. As you can see from the pics, the "one slot" slot is narrower than the "two slot" slot, and the double ridge won't fit into the "one slot" slot. The other side is problematic as well; the single ridge is "taller" than the double ridge, so it hits against the middle of the "two slot" slot.

Use a file and shave those tabs off.

And you had to file away all *three* tabs? Just checking to be sure.

IIRC, I file the tabs off of the male plug, not the female. i.e. the plug coming out of the car.

Correct on that. It would be way too difficult to try to work a file into the "socket" on the taillight.

Yeah, but my name's Murphy, so I'd always try to do it the hard way.

Sorry for the crappy pic. And yes, the "double" tab, the opposite side wide tab, and the narrow tab ALL had to come off. Thank you, Mr. Dremel.

Thanks guys for weighing in on this one.

You know what to do now.

Oh, and it looks great, that's the first time I've seen the JDM's on a SO.

Another idea is to cut the wires about an inch after the plug on both. use a wire connector kit and put the us plugs on the jdm tails. and you can heat shrink and soter the wires if you like.. just depends on how professional you want it to look.
