Default plastic part on steering wheel

So ever since I got my car I've had this weird stuff on the each side of my steering wheel on the plastic part. It won't come off and just has like a rough feel to it. Its noticeable as well which bugs the crap out of me. Any ideas?

Sorry ahead of time for the bad pictures, its hard to see in a picture what I'm talking about but hopefully some of you see it.

That finisher has fared well on some model years, not as well on others. Miles have little to do with wear.

Anyway to replace this part? There is a screw behind it but I was unable to get the part off. Suggestions?

Maybe take the pieces off, sand 'em down, re-paint 'em.

I painted mine black cuz I hate the silvery trim.

You have to take the steering wheel off to get them off though.

Here's the thread for my black out project, includes pic of painted pieces on the steering wheel.

Here's the thread I used for getting those pieces off: has pics. I did not replace the torx bolts like the OP did.

This thread is for changing out steering wheel mounted controls but it gives you all the details including tools needed to get those pieces off. Up to step 11 pretty much. Actually less work than I expected. I was concerned about airbag but ended up, everything went fine.

I had the same problem when I bought my used Z. Took it to my badass customer service dude at Nissan and he gave me a whole new steering wheel!! The middle airbag part obviously was reused, but he said the silver things could not be ordered by themselves, and only come as a kit/set with the new wheel itself. Btw, I thought it was like the protective clear peeling off, as I could chip it w/my fingernail.

Sean I have BOTH those parts brand new for sale. I sold the Z so I have no need for them let me know via PM. I am in the Marina Del Rey Area or we can meet up somewhere near both of us.

I totally have the same problem. These actually secure on with plastic clips but just a warning if you want to try to take them off or replace them. I popped mine off because one of the sides was chipping/scratching off bad and when I did it, the buttons and the little plastic thingys (yes i said thingys) underneath them went flying when I pulled it off and I had to seriously scour my seat area to find them all again.

Contemplating an overlay and waiting for Vas@extended to get back to me with a pm for perhaps a cf wrapped piece. I might drop by the Nissan service place to ask if I could replace it too, I know they replaced my door switch panel for free when it got all scratched up.

I have the same problem. Can you use sand paper to sand it off?

I'm not sure if it use to be there from before. I never noticed it when I bought my car.

Refer to the sale thread if you want them.
