Question Need a Temporary Way to Mount Front Plate!

This is the 2nd time these arseholes in Plano have cited me for no front plate. I need a way to "temporarily" mount the front plate on. Then take my car up there let em' verify it, and then remove it! I'm not about to ruin the smooth/clean lines of the Z's front bumper with plates!
Of course this only happens after being cited for speeding!
And just so you Dallas/Plano guys know, LASER is getting prevelant here....

use some thyin wire or zip ties to attach it to the grill slits, then just cut them off later.

Do you mean the plate itself or the mounting bracket then the plate?

do it right through the 4 screw holes on the plate directly to the grill strips. it doesnt even need to look good if you want it to be very temporary, so it should take about 5 minutes to do. You could even do it in the parking lot before they check your car.

Good suggestion! It'll have to look somewhat "sturdy & legit" due to a cop will probably come out and visually inspect it.
I tell you, I love my home, neighborhood, town, but Plano Police are in a "FUROR" to write tickets lately (and months to come) cause' they are building a new Courthouse/Jail. Not too mention the overall crimerate is one of the lowest in the state of Texas! SO as you can imagine.........they are out in full force.

Thanks. Yeah, I saw that already. Unfortunately here in Plano, they give you all but 10 Days to enter a plea, fix, or pay fine! I am already on day # 6! Time is of the essence! I may order that for future use though.

Default No Drill front plate bracket (II)

marcus,

you still have 4 days, maybe the method originally posted by our member "zcar70" may help....

quote from zcar70:
-----------
NO DRILL BRACKET.....AGAIN!
NO DRILL front plate bracket! LOOK!!

My gift to all you fellow z-car nuts:

You do not have to drill ANY holes to mount the 350Z front plate.
Here's how:
- Go to your local auto parts store and buy the $2.99 "Universal License Plate Bracket". It is about 8 inches long with LOTS of holes and slots so it will fit any application.
- Go to your local hardware store and get two 3" x 1/4" toggle bolts.
- Mount the bracket with the toggle bolts through the grill to each side of the tow-hook area. DO NOT drill holes! Snug it down.
- Mount your plate TO THE BRACKET.

That's it! The bracket fits over the tow hook area and is easily removed by simply loosening the toggle bolts. Since the plate is mounted to the bracket and NOT the grill directly, there is not contact to painted areas and thus no rubbing/scratching.Total cost about 4 bucks......lots cheaper than the one Courtesy is selling!
----------

Rgd,
Mickey

just use the zip ties.... get black ones so they'll blend in with the color of the grille. just strap it on tight and after the cops see it, go home and cut the zip ties. when straping them on, open the hood and theres space so you can go behind the grille.

Talking Update!!!

Well........I forgot to mention to you guys that I also have the GRILL-TECH grill (which I really like!) so that posed a potential problem in itself!
But.......... Thanks to the MIGHTY "zip-tie" I was able to rig up the bracket to the grill and then the plate to the bracket. So that worked out pretty good.........so I thought.
I had to go and track down a couple of 'metric' screws to hold the plate to the bracket. Of course MOST typical plate screws are 1/4 in. but nooooooo not Nissan! So after buying a set, I had to return them and then hunt down a pair of 20mx6 bolts...hooray for Home Depot!
At any rate.... So I get to the Courthouse, go in, and an officer (luckily he was not a Patrol Officer) comes out, and I'm like "Cool, he'll glance at it, sign off on it, case dismissed!" Instead, he reaches down and shakes the shiz out of it.......! I'm like WTF?
Luckily the 1 zip-tie I use holds like a champ, but now it's kinda crooked! He's like "Is that gonna hold? It seems kinda temporary." I'm like no shiz SHERLOCK!" j/k I'm like, "No actually it is VERY sturdy, but I need some special bolts to go on the inside edges to finish it up."
Needless to say, Got it dismissed and it's all good now.

Here's a pic of my "temp setup" for those of you with a aftermarket GRILL:

TXSTYLE,
Did the cop scuff up your grill when he pulled that bracket?
