I did something like this with my old Civ.... just gotta be aware of which gear you are in by looking at your dash as the AT shift panel was covered up.

Got a shift boot and then had to disassemble the lower console assembly to tuck the boot in and when reassembled it holds the bottom of the boot tight. The top required [crudely] setting up a "stopper" of sorts so that the boot would not fall down. I used electrical tape and wrapped it around numerous times so that it anchored the top of the boot up and elevated.

You would have to remove the AT shift handle to do this. Actually pretty easy and fun since (for me anyways) when I get an idea, I try everything that I can to execute it (quick fixes and crude but effective setups). Any of you from the SF Bay Area? I'd be willing to help you out in accomplishing this.

JP, would like to see your finalized product... can't use it myself (6MT) but I like seeing inventions carried through to fruition. Please post your pics.

I get my car back thursday or friday, I think I'm going to do it by removing the first part of the dash, when you do this, it in a manual, it reveals where Nissan installs the oem one, and I should be able to installl it then, I'll show you pics of what I mean when I get my car back.

I've done it. Very cool looking. Everybody thinks its a manual until they see the pedals. No need to remove any part of the dash, very easy mod. I'll post pics soon as I figure out how.

explain how you did it, and as for the pics- under options there's an attach file, press the choose file and then proceed to upload the picture from your computer.

The only thing you need to remove first is the shift ****, then the trim ring. Work your fingers around it until it pops out. DO NOT use screwdriver cause it will scratch the plastic. Once its out, bend off the plastic tabs (bigger) leaving the smaller back piece.

You need to trim the leather shift boot about 1-1.5 inch from the bottom. Tuck in the leather and glue it to the "neck" of the shifter console. I used rubber glue in case I want to return it to stock, its easier to take off. Next put the trim ring back, you need to push it down a little harder as this will grip the leather tight. That's all there is to it. I used MOMO auto shift **** and boot if you guys are wondering. This is my contribution to the Z community.
