gas shocks for hood???
#4
looks like there are mounting points on the side of the hood for the gas struts. Just not sure what to use. Then again, with aluminum hood we have, I'll be afraid of it getting bent because of no support on the tip of the hood (ie prop rod.)

Reasons
I can think of a few reasons Nissan didn't use them.
Added cost
Added weight
Possibly not enough clearance
Possible bending of lighweight hood.
If it is just the first two reasons then it should be a possible upgrade. However, figuring out the angles, clearance, mounting points, and spring pressure required would probably take some trial and error. (unless some already makes a kit)
I would also be affraid of bending the hood while working the kinks out of the system.
But I bet the first person who comes up with a good kit could sell a bunch of them.

Gas Hood Struts
I purchased after-market gas struts for my Miata and it worked very well. There was very little additional pressure required to close the hood. If one were designed properly with good attachment points I'd buy some in a second.
