Default Are the 03-05 and 06-08 HID headlight guts the same, ballats, igniter, bulbs, ??

I have a 2004 Z, i am looking to upgrade to a 06-08 set, the set i found does not have the HID equipment on it, its just the housings.

i know the 03-05 uses a D2R hid high beam bulb

the 06-08 uses a D2S bi xenon bulb for high and low beam

do they both use the same guts, ballast, igniter. Can i install the HID equipment from a 03-05 HID headlight on a 06-08 housing.

I already have the newer D2S bulb but can i use the rest of the 2004 stuff on the 2006 housing?

Also how does the 06-08 bi-xenon high/low work. does it have a flap that moves. If so how is it powered.

Thanks

Kevin

although the ballasts are different part numbers, you can use 03-05 ballasts on your 06 lights. the majority of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles can use the same ballasts actually.
the 03-05 headlights use D2R for the low beam only, it uses a halogen high beam. other than the ballasts, there are no GUTS needed to be interchanged, nor would you want to interchange anything else...

the reason iam wondering is because i have an opportunity to buy used 06 headlights that were replaced under warranty. I assume that they only replaced the housing and reused any parts they could to reduce costs. Meaning that if i buy them i may not have all the parts needed. This is why i am wondering if i can use the parts from my 03-05 lights if needed. Will the 03-05 parts just bolt up and plug and play?

03-05 are single projector, the 06+ are bi-xenon. they are different lights, not even the same bulb. completely different interally as well.

what you typed about "cutting costs" makes absolutely no sense at all. if the used lights were replaced under warranty, why would they not be a compete set? it is stupid to just "replace the housing".

i was told the headlights were replaced becuase of a leak. I am going to paint the housings to i will be resealing them anyway. I fig to cut costs they would just replace the min amount of parts. I fig they would jsut do the housings.

I check before i posted i know the bulbs are different, when i bought mt 6000k bulbs for my 03-06 headlight i was given a bulb that would also work in the 06-08 style, so tghe bulb i have now will work.

so i bought the headlights.

they came with the housing and wiring, no bulb, the cap behind the bulb or ballast.

heres a few pics

fronts

backs

where the bulb and bulb filler cap would go

where the ballast would attach

--

now can i use the parts off of my 03-05 lights, will the parts i need bolt up? can i make them work?

the covers should work, so will the ballast. the rest will not since they are different lights (like explained already).

ok so the cap behind the bulb will work, the ballast will work. what is the rest your talking about.

this is a cap from a 02-05

this is a ballast from a 02-05

The only other part is the bulb and wiring from the ballast to the bulb.

I have a bulb for the 2006 light now too, so the silver wiring from the ballast to the bulb work on both?

Ok sorry to steal your thread for a second. As most people know i wrecked the Z. They replaced my 04 headlights with the 08 headlights. They came with the bulbs already in them and everything. Is there anything i need to get off the old set to make the HIDs work or is it already all in the new set?

they should just plug in, some people have the amber light above the projector on all of the time, some dont. if you do and dont liek it you cut the green wire iam told. you can search for more info if needed.

Important info:

I have just finished painting my light and swapped all of the equipment from the 04 set to the 06 set.

-The ballast fit/works

-The bulb fit /works, (aftermarket one)

-The bulb wire from the ballast to bulb fit/works

-The grounding wire fit/works after a cut a part of it off.

-The plastic cap behind the bulb DID NOT FIT/WORK

The cap on the 02-05 lights is larger than the one on the 06-08 lights. I wish I knew this before hand. Luckily this part is available from Nissan on its own. Its is cheap $9 cnd each. But I have to wait a few days so my car is un-drivable and on jack stands until then.
