3M Automotive Tape and humidity / rain
I recently removed my Nismo replica rear add-ons and re-installed them because I had originally installed them in the wrong position (too far down). Now I cannot get one of the sides to stick. I am using 3M gray colored automotive tape. I have a strip of tape running across the top edge of the part. I have tried to install the one side 4 times over the past 3 weeks and it keeps coming off. The common ingredient each time is that it is very humid outside when I apply the 3M tape, and in a few cases it rained shortly after I installed it.
Will humidity and/or rain cause the 3M tape to fail to adhere? Any advice would be appreciated - for now I am driving around with just one nismo rear installed and it's not exactly a good look. Thanks!

you need to remove the old tape and put fresh tape on. no way around that. also make sure both contact areas are completely dirt-free. prep the site according to 3M and use the pre-cleaner wipes as well.

LOL yeah I am using new tape for each attempt. Each time I remove the tape from both the bumper and the nismo add-on. Usually it is not difficult to remove, which I'm sure is the root of the problem. Once I get it all removed I wipe down each surface with a wax remover / de-greaser spray on solution that a local auto paint shop gave me for this application. After I wipe it down and let it dry I try to re-apply the tape.
Should I be washing with soap and water in between cleaning with the degreaser and applying the new tape?

Humidity/water, dust, greasy stuff...Many things affect all kindsa glues to work like they should. Try cleaning the area with a soapy solution, rinse it out, & dry it REALLY well with a blow dryer. Good luck, dude!

Apply the tape and allow it to adhere to the surface before you peel off the backing to attach the the rear skirt. Or apply it to the skirt and allow it to adhere before peeling backing and attaching to the car. It sounds like you are trying to put the two together before it has had time to bond.
I used the same body tape for my hole-less bumper tuck, I applied to the crash bar and let it sit for a few minutes before peeling the backing and tucking the flap.

I think I might have had success tonight. Washed both parts with soap and water and dried thoroughly, then wiped each part with degreaser spray and let dry. Then I used 3 strips of tape instead of 1 continuous strip and stuck it on there. Seems to be sticking so far. I'll see how it is holding up in the morning.
