Question i recently just got my nismo v2 bumper painted and the paint on the bumper seems to b

i recently just got my nismo v2 bumper painted and the paint on the bumper seems to be a few shades darker than the car. my car is silverstone which has this light bluish-silver color in direct sunlight but the bumper is just dark gray at all times. this auto body guy told me maybe the metallic was done wrong and somebody else told me it may need to be buffed or something. could someone tell me how i could go about making the paint match better? thanks

Only thing that could probably make it match better, is get it painted the same color. It sounds to me that its missing a pearl coat...

You get what you pay for. It pays to play. blah blah blah. If you bought it new and then had it painted and it doesn't match then complain to the painter. Let him know you're unhappy with the results and request it repainted. If they're honest and perfectionist then they'll apologize and repaint it. If you bought it off someone who painted it before you then you're responsible for repainting it. It sucks but there's no cheap way to fix it.

The best way is what the OP said earlier (repaint). Otherwise "an easier and cheaper way to do it that can be done by you" is to get some spray cans from Walmart

Sounds like they gave you the "jigsaw paintjob" upgrade, free of charge.

I have painted silverstone before .. it IS NOT a three stage paint
(maybe for one or two paint suppliers, but for the majority its a base / clear .. no pearl coat anymore)

as for it not matching .. bumpers will never match the car 100% because of the difference in material (plastic vs. meta) .. but they should be "close"

maybe post up some pics

if its WAY off .. then take it back to where you got it painted .. any body shop should redo something that is not satisfactory

I'm a painter at a Dodge dealership body shop and we have to redo cars every now and then .. its just part of the job

oh another question .. did you take your car to them and get them to try and match the color with color charts / chips?

if not get them to try it next time .. some paint codes have many variants depending on the production date, assembly plant, etc

if your car is silver its faded. You will not get it to match at this point by buffing it. When you buff a car all you are doing is buffing the clear coat. To do it right it should have had a blending agent put into the base coat.

Have them redo it.

By the way... if they tell you the metallic was done wrong that is crap, its like telling someone who doesn't know much about engines their rotator splints are bad. It is just a bad match job.

it's not gonna match perfectly cause of the metal to plastic (as stated by adrian) i bought my car brand new and you could tell it in pearl white. two different materials are gonna produce two different colors

I think you should take it back and complain and have them repaint it IF it is waaaayyy off... But like the OP said, with the difference in materials there will be a difference in results.... about a month ago someone backed into my rear bumper and his insurance covered it... So I took it to a local Nissan body shop and got the work done... and you can kinda tell the difference in color but only if you really look at it and look for it... It's nothing that really bothers me.... But it sounds like you can really tell the difference on your car, so you should go back to that shop!

BTW, I also have a Silverstone...
