Default removing old spray paint from interior

My window switch covers were pretty nasty so I decided to refinish them. The passenger side came out alright, except the sand paper barely worked, therefore I had to use a knife which left streaks in the plastic. In the end they are barely noticeable but for the driver side I'd like to be more delicate.

The driver side was previously redone, but the prior owner did a ghetto job and I need to remove the old glossy black paint. Can I use a thinner without harming the plastic underneath? What about hitting it with steel wool first then a heavier grit sand paper?

So your saying, the original owner of the car spray painted the interior and you are going to clean it up, by spray painting it again?

You can find replacement pieces, wrap your current ones, or even go carbon fiber.

1. Replacements will chip just as easily
2. I like the OEM look
3. See above

06bluez, your link does not work.

Thank you for all the suggestions. The passenger side after I refinished it is attached below. If I can get the paint off the driver's side, I'm going to paint it just the same. So you know, the previous owner taped off the switch cover and painted it while still in the car. It looks no where near my result. Is there still confusion?

Can't really tell from the picture. Take one of it installed. I have a feeling it's going to look out of place.

It looks good installed. I did it this morning and snapped some pictures. I will upload them when I return from class.

The color matches the interior trim almost perfectly if not perfectly.

EDIT: That black line in the picture is an error from resizing the picture in paint.

1st pic: passenger side refinished
2nd pic: driver side as it is

I could go more black if I found the right paint I guess.

A solvent such as mineral spirits is detrimental to plastic. You have little choice but sanding.

Believe me, they don't hold anything useful to drink unless you are a canned soda junky or alcoholic. You aren't missing out.

That's what I feared. I might try a brill-o pad since I need some anyway for my CEL fix.

Thank you guys.

Thanks

I picked up a different brand (Duplicolor) and will try the drivers side with it. If it's darker I might make a couple pases on the passenger side. The goal is oem look
