I would imagine with out them it would rock up and down like the metal bar seat belt on a roller coaster....

My bar came with the mounts but there are pictures on Google with people not running the bars, just the bar across.. I'm not sure how to mount mine since they don't reach

Pics?

You can mount the bar without those 2 supporting bars (Which look like chit anyway imho cause you have to remove your spare area cover) and it will still work fine and be compliant just as the Sparco bar is (Sparco bar has no supporting bars, just bolts to either side's seat belt bolt only)

I have JasonZya's custom made 4-point harness bar in my Z and it's the best design hands down and by a mile, both in form and function. (Free plug brosef, i LOVE the bar you designed!!)

Anyways, post up pics of how it is not fitting. The main bar is able to move up and down where those support bars attach to it, just loosen the seat belt bolts alittle so you can move the bar up and down at that point, then attach the support bars to floor and to main bar while main bar is still loose, then tighten everything up. Walllllla.
