Hot gear knob on 350z
Hello
I just bought a 2005 - 350z.
I start to notice that the gear shift **** (the stick) is getting hot. Especialy on the metal plate where the gears are indicated HH -(6 speed manual).
Is this normal? Thank in advance.

I have that same issue and hear in vegas when the temps can get up to 115 that thing can brand you. I keep a velvet purple cover that comes with a crown bottle in the car so that I can throw it over the **** until it cools off.
I know its maybe a lame question but I just had my transmission refurbished (all sychros) and before that I did not notice the hot shift stick. (I am just afraid that maybe the transmition is overheating)
Im still not sure, is it normal?
Thanks for the help.

I know that on long road trips at highway speeds, the transmission gets pretty warm and that heat spreads to the shifter. The temperature of the shifter will be a function of how long and hard you're driving it as well as the air temperature. I've left my car in the sun for an hour and almost couldn't touch the TK shiftknob.
Thanks you your reply. For example: I drove my Z for about 20 km (driving in the night, outside temperature round 15C). When I got back to the garage the **** was hot, I would estimate round 40C-45C.
Im still new to the car (just about 500km), so am still learning about it. I was just afraid they maybe wrongly assembled the transmission etc.).

What part of town are you in? We need to go for a cruise sometime.
Only time I notice heat is from direct sunlight since mine is all metal. I have driven it for 4-5 hours oat a time on short trips stays cool as a cucumber, so I am thinking there is something wrong if your getting that kind of heat transfer from the transmission.
