please help me identify retro fitted hids.
A friend thought he could retro fit these into a Z and decided he didnt wanna splice his headlight harness. (smart guy)
He gave them to me and im just looking to identify them so i can sell them.
Would anyone have experience in what car brand these would have come from? model possibly also.

they arent a generic ballasts. you have some very good ballasts on your hands. they are HELLA. made in germany...top of the line **** when it comes to HIDs. they look like they are off of a E39 BMW. 2000-2003....mostly.

Im not expecting to get 600 obviously, but they are in perfect working condition including the bulbs. I was ready told that they were high end ballasts and really expensive to replace in cars that use them oem but i wanted to find my target market so i know which forum to post these in. Thanks for all the help fellas.

If they are indeed real Hella ballasts then you have something valuable.
If it is a knock off (Which it very well could be ) then they are only worth $50 or less to the right person.
The bulbs you have there are H4 (HB2/9003) single beam bulbs. They are common on Honda Civics.
Another very common application for the H4 bulb is a sealed beam into composite headlight conversion housing used on old cars. If your car came with a sealed beam headlight, you would purchase this headlight and an HID kit:
http://tlg-auto.com/Universal-Produc...tor-H6054.html
The problem is that it's a single beam bulb. The majority of vehicles that use an H4 need dual beam (One bulb does both high and low beam). The exception would be a car using a sealed beam headlight originally that have one housing for low and one housing for high.
The connectors on the ballast and bulb do not look like your standard HID conversion kit harness. See here:
http://tlg-auto.com/Universal-HID/Si...HID-Bulbs.html
In order to use the ballasts you have you'd have to convert the weatherpack style connectors to the new style and then buy new bulbs to fit it.
Like I said, if these are genuine Hella ballasts, they would probably be worth around $200 to the right person.
Yes you can buy an HID kit on ebay for $90, $50, or even $35... doesn't mean they're any good.

They are genuine hella gen 3 ballasts, i have over 10000 posts on hidplanet, i know this unit inside out.
It can be as old as 1998, last production year to use them was probably 2003, then hella gen 4 2004-current
Some kias came with them but were stamped HELLA Made in Korea.
Max value is around 120-150$ USD used per pair
They were usually sold for 250$ from the hidplanet store per pair Brand new
You would need new d2s connectors, they are usually 15-20$ per pair to be reverted to d2s applications. IF they fire up those bulbs then they are fine. Hellas are notorious for dying ignitors so age is a huge factor. If you took them apart you could tell the rough age by the circuit board stamp id (index number). Early models were 3 digits, later models were 5. So a model that has 00234 would be very old vs 02654
Cheers

These came out of a crackheads integra build. My friend bought the car and the previous owner got them to work, but only on the passanger side. The crack head acctually wired in the original harness from the original car so none of the wires from the ballast are cut. I checked them both through the passenger harness and they both fired up and lit perfect. Thats when it was mentioned to put them into a z instead i took them and hoped to turn a profit.
I knew if i posted this in my350z someone would come through. Theres allot of knowledge in this forum.
Thanks for all the help guys seriously your awesome.

i have to look at my current ones to see if that 06 was always there, it would make sense if it was the year. Confirmed, not the year Mine have 94 and J4 along with other codes. Its probably O6 like the letter O.
Look on the other side of the ballast, like flip it 180 deg and look on the IC board, the text is in green.
I have to pull up my high rez pics to find the numbers. I havent cracked one of these apart in years
