Default CF Hoods

I am looking to get a CF hood for my Z and just had a couple of questions. I will most likely be buying it online, as I've found a couple of websites with decent shipping costs. I was wondering, how hard or easy is it to install these yourself at home? I am not really mechanically inclined when it comes to this stuff, but is it possible to remove your stock hood and replace with the CF one at home?

Can I find any instructions somewhere?

Also, wondering if I could get some opinions on which one of these hoods looks better?

OEM

i havent touched the Z hood, but its usually the same.. remove the washer connections, and remove nuts.. then replace. out of those 2, i like the one w/o vents for looks.

edit- i forgot the washers are on the wipers so you might not even need to pull those

Get the 2nd one..

I my self (HR N/A) got a vented hood and found it healthy to keep the engine bay breathing.. As whenever I stop the car, I feel heat coming out of the vents.

Plus it's a must if you decide to FI your Z later

Good luck

+1 on seibon, very good fit and good price.

Its 4 bolts and closing it. I like the vents, but my Z was a little bland since i was still OEM almost everywhere.. I didnt want the hood to look aggressive and nothing else. But i got a Shine amuse rep front bumper and now i think the TS hood would have looked ok, but i love the OEM VIS i got for FREE!.... well traded with another member for my hood.....

Make sure you keep waxing it, as it will yellow after time in the sun. But if it does, just have it wet sanded and re cleared. OR, if you have the $$ do that right away. Ive heard different stories of how some hoods are good to go, and some arent......kinda a gamble

Getthe vented if your going to get one, OEM in CF is pointless , its less that 1/2 pound lighter than stock then once painted it will look just like stock. With the vented, you get function and when painted people can still tell you have an nice aftermarket hood.

I have also been leaning towards the vented one. Although I have a question, if it snows or rains isn't it dangerous for the engine to have water leak on it? I have a popcharger, wouldn't there be a danger of hydrolocking of water goes through?

I looked at Seibon as well but their vented hoods are lot more expensive and I can find a decent price on the one's I posted.

You shouldnt have a problem with hydrolocking, unless your entire filter is submerged in water. But don't come to me if you do get locked! LOL

My z (daily) has a vented hood and popcharger with no problems

I don't think it car rain hard enough to hydrolock a motor.

Does anyone know how the fitment of Extreme Dimensions carbon fibre hoods are? Do they fit nicely right out of the box? I mean if I am going to be installing it by myself at home, I really can't afford any fitment problems and stuff like that.

I have a seibon Top Secret style vented hood. Love it. It fits ok. It doesnt shut on the first try though. I have to push on it a few times. I need some aerocatch hood pins too.

Anyone know of any websites that have decent shipping costs to Canada?

I only found carid.com so far and they charge $120 to ship to me. But they only have a couple of Extreme Dimensions CF hoods, plus they use UPS which is going to **** me in the *** by adding 20% and 5% duties, once it delivers me the hood.

Yea I've been looking at a whole bunch of vendors here and scouring the private classifieds section as well, without any luck.

What do you guys think of this one?

http://www.grounddynamics.com/GTC-Ca...2dgtc-010c.htm

Seems like a pretty decent price and I checked that their shipping isn't ridiculous. Is VIS a good brand for CF hoods? Installation easy? Do I need hood pins? Does that make the installation harder?

Thanks guys.

The first one, hands down. The second choice looks tacky IMO due to the middle inlet...

I like the VIS GTC style as well. With just the three small vents on each side, the other one seems a bit over the top.

Now my questions is in regards to the hood pins. I've been reading everything that they are recommended. Now even if I may be able to install the hood myself, would I be able to install the hood pins too? I am thinking that I might have to take the hood to a shop for installation if I need to get the hood pins and everything installed. They are going to charge about a $100 for it.
