Halogen to HID issue
Hello everyone
Just got my 03' z for a month
=)
it a base model
i got a question by the way.
since the base doesnt come with hid
i switch the halogen bulb to 55w hid H7. (since my halogen was super dim, i barely see the road)
but it doesnt seem to have a very bright output and the light spot is everywhere like a V shape and very short distance.
(the HID kit , have bulbs , slim ballasts and wire cables// 3 parts for each side)
is this suppose to happen to base model? Help plz
here is a link for other base 350z owner's result

Yeah that looks terrible... bulbs may not be seated properly as already mentioned. BTW I doubt its 55W HID, probably 35W.
Even though the housings are not designed for HID, a good bulb where the light is created at the proper location in relation to the cut off shield and reflector bowl should produce good results. You may have got a crap HID kit which is never a good thing.
Another option would be buying 06+ headlamps for about a grand. If that is too steep you could retrofit some other brand bixenon HID projectors into your housings. This is a pretty big undertaking though, but if your interested check out hidplanet.com and theretrofitsource.com as they are good places to start.

i have a 35w H1 extra myself.
i tried it on, and it was super dim. i cant see anything with it at night.
im not sure is this 55w, but it is sure brighter than the 35w i had.
would there be a chance that the car cant output the max power to the light?
or it happened to have "V shape" spot light, because the length of a H7 Hid bulb is longer than a H7 halogen bulb.
where the light should emit somewhere close to the centre of a bulb.
so the reflector has a wrong reflection position of light to the projector lens.
Did anyone here try to put a HID conversion kit on a 2003 base HID halogen projector?
this will help =)
or should i stick back with halogen?

I have a base model 05 with ddm tuning 55w hids 6000k and mine look NOTHING like the above. My lights look exactly like my friends 03 with factory hids just a lot brighter. I will take pics tomorrow and post them.
Something is really wrong op.... check your bulb positioning in the sockets.

It looks brighter because more light is confined to a smaller area. It is either not seated properly or a very poorly designed bulb. Since they both look the same i'm thinking its the latter. I'd try another HID kit. The DDM mentioned, i've heard good things about. That's a 50W kit BTW, not 55. No matter though...
Good luck, you need that fixed soon... won't be able to see a damn thing when driving with light on the road that close to your car.

Sorry I never got the chance to get you a photo... my cell phone didn't take a good pic. Looks like you may need to aim the lights up some to even out the beams.
I spent several hours getting mine adjusted just right.

that spread looks horrible. that is why you don't do conversions... if you want HIDs, buy HID based housings or do a retrofit.
I feel bad for the drivers you share the road with. You will be blinding everyone

He won't be blinding anyone, I still see he has a cutoff, no light is going above the horizon... it's fine.
