Painting 06+ Headlights
Ok I want to bake my headlights for a lens retrofit.I have done it before with
03-05 lights but in a different oven (ex girlfriends) as in the heat from the oven comes from the top.
Now my oven's heat comes from the bottom?
Can I still do it?
Just put cardboard and thats it?
I dont want to mess up the $800 lights I just bought
Im just being cautious.
Thank you for your response.

What do you mean as in keep the light away from the sides?
And what exact temp and time would be ideal for the open and closing of headlights?
I havent done this mod in about 3 years.
Thank you.

good intentioned advice im sure, and maybe someones pulled it off that way.. but most likely a very bad idea unless you a total wizard w the heat gun.. the oven radiates the heat in a far less focused beam of heat.. thats why the ovens what you really want to use. imagine cookig a chicken w a heat gun.. versus puttin it inthe oven.. you get the picture..
Fawk it, im gonna cook a chicken w a heat gun now. haha.
I see 5 out of 10 ppl who would use a heat gun melting their lenses w hot spots.
Do not use wet cardboard when re sealing them in the oven. Just use shorter periods in the oven. Ive also heard of adding wet cardboard at that stage will cause evaporation and will likely fog the lenses in most cases.

I actually used a heat gun on an 05 head light that was about to get scrapped because of a broken tab. Wanted to practice before I disassembled my 07 head lights.
The heat gun method worked but you do have to work very carefully and pay attention.

I don't think the oven element being on top or bottom matters, it still will be the same amount of heat inside.
Edit:
This is the thread that you should also reference that contains all the relevant info:
