Alright, first things first: 2003 enthusiast with 08 bi xenons. Originally I thought I had a D2S HID bulb out on the passenger side, upon replacement it still wouldn't light up. Changed the bulb again to one I knew with 100% confidence worked. Still not working. Took the entire headlight out and switched it to the driver's side and plugged it in, wouldn't you know it, headlight on. So then I took the working driver's side light and plugged it in on the passengers side, no light. Everything else works when plugged in, parking lights, turn signals, ect., just no headlight beam.

So this process of elimination has determined that the problem exists somewhere from the male connector on my vehicle or before. Upon visual inspection everything looks fine, no damage, the loom is unscathed and the rest of the connectors along the way are all undamaged and attached, I have no idea where to look next. Has anyone experienced something like this before? I am thinking since everything else in the headlight operates normally, maybe the pin slot for the 12v power to the headlight could be damaged?? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Mat

 

You didn't mention the HID ballast... is that dead on the right side? Otherwise definitely sounds like a wiring issue. I'm no wiring expert. I'd take it to a Nissan dealership personally and see if they can give you a quote and tell you whats wrong, then fix it yourself.

 

The ballast is contained within the headlight assembly, both headlights work when plugged into the drivers side harness. There is something wrong on the vehicle passenger side somewhere from the male plug on the vehicle's harness back. I am not willing to pay Nissan a dime to monkey around nor do I trust them. My car can't get onto their lift anyway, they make me raise it before I go in or it gets stuck.

Nobody knows how I can start troubleshooting to find the problem on the plug or the wiring leading up to it? When plugged in, everything else works, the corner leds, the turn signals, and the small white bulb by the HID bulb. This leads me to believe that either the pin that corresponds to the headlight 12V or the headlight ground could be faulty? This is driving me crazy because the loom and wrapping around the wires looks perfect and undisturbed, and all of the rest of the headlight functions are operational.

 

Bro take the z to your trusted or local custom shop where they deal with HIDs. They will know the trick. It can be from a wire to just a ballast adjustment. Thats what I did to my lights. I dont got the patience for that lol

 

Do you own a DMM (digital multi-meter)? If so, use that to check for power at the connector. If there's no power, then go to the next component in the circuit. Check the LT section of your factory service manual to see what needs to be tested.

 

Did you checked the headlight fuse?

 

If it was the fuse, then both headlights would be out; unless there's a bigger issue here.

 

On my speed6 , they have their own fuse for each headlight, not sure about the z though....

Yes I do, I checked it and sure enough, minimal reading from the pin corresponding to the power wire for the HID bulb. 12V for the other pins which should show power, which confirms my suspicions about a bad power wire. How do I go about testing along this wire to find where the problem exists? I have the service manual but unfortunately it is on my desktop and I am still out of power from this past weekend's storm I believe the next component down the line is the washer fluid assembly but I am just recalling from memory. Should I just continue to test for power along the wire and if so how should I go about it?

On a side note:: I am overdue to get this tested at the DMV from a fix it ticket and my registration is subject to suspension, so I have been flirting with the idea of a "quick-fix". I thought about tapping into the driver's side HID power wire, running a wire and bypassing the connector on the passenger harness and tapping it to the other side directly before the ballast. Should I have any major concerns when doing this? Will running both HID ballast and bulbs from the same power wire cause any issues or overload anything?
