Default CF Hood Damage.. Is it repairable?

So I found a guy selling a Seibon TS CF hood. For a deal that can not be passed up. Only thing is it has a bad heat spot and some scratches. What would need to be done to make this look new?

Sand it properly and Clearcoat it again and it should be ok.

Yes you can fix it to look like new in most cases..

My friend's MR2 had a 5 year old border style carbon fiber hood, it had some really heavy oxidization haze. He wetsanded the hood and shot some laters of clear coat on it, when he was finished it looked like new. Also, if you're good with resin you can repair any cracks.

I had a supra carbon fiber on special order for a customer, when it arrived we noticed it had a broken corner, it was actually bent over pointing the wrong direction! The customer wanted the hood and didn't want to wait, so we took it to a body shop, $130 later when we got the hood back we couldn't tell which side originally had the damage

How to fix a carbon fiber hood

Here's an article that explains it in more detail.

I'd be concerned that the heat weakened the resin that binds the CF together, and it's much more than a cosmetic issue.

Just paint it body color and leave CF accents around the vents. Simple , easy and looks so much better than a bare CF hood.

is that kevlar? or did that resin turn Yellow? or is it the lighting.

you can only sand down so much on a CF hood since its just the gelcoat that is typically on this.. imho, paint over it and keep the vents in cf.

im kind of not wanting it now.. seems like it wouldnt look good and if anything it might mess it up more. might just wait for another good deal to come around.

my cf hood has some yellowing. the only attention im giving it is around the vents which im leaving exposed, the rest is getting color matched. it looks so much more classy and aggressive at the same time

Definitely looks like kevlar. But a reclearing should do it. Might need to do some heavy sanding though

i can't tell but hopefully the spider cracks are only on the clear coat surface and not beneath it on the actual fiber weave.

i thought i remember you saying you were against CF hoods
